🖖 A Farewell and a New Chapter 📖

Cultural diversity, voice, and power have always been at the heart of the EXPECT_Art project❤️. From the very beginning, we set out to create spaces where critical dialogue is nurtured because dialogue is how knowledge grows, how understanding deepens, and how communities are strengthened🫶.

After much reflection, we have made the decision to leave Facebook and Instagram. This has been “cooking” for a long time, and today we take a deliberate step forward. We do not want to use online platforms that attack individuals or organisations, nor do we want to continue validating systems that often amplify conflict rather than care❌.

Instead, we remain committed to building respectful, inclusive, and creative spaces where voices matter. We are grateful for the many meaningful connections we’ve made here, and for every one of you who followed, supported, and engaged with us on these channels.💞

📌Day 6 of our summer school. This is our last day of workshops and lectures but we are not slowing down at all! Karolina from the University of Wrocław team presented her workshop on "Legal Education Through Art". Law and Art? We were quite surprised they go along together 🤔

📚We continued with the lecture carried out by Jacek Wasik - Head of the Regional Representation of European Commision. We discussed about cultural education in the multicultural society of contemporary Europe, concerning the culture-creating and popularising activities undertaken by the European Parliament and its representatives offices.

🔎Then we had lectures with the student group "Archeo" presented by Laura Fryźlewicz, Alamela Sobieraj and Witold Warmuzek. We discussed the colonization of prehistory, decolonization of art of North America and how artifacts of power have been used throughout the history to legitimize power.We finished the day with a campfire and a lesson on making herbal infusions, medieval cuisine and an Archeo-Etno party!

📌🇵🇱 Szósty dzień naszej szkoły letniej. To ostatni dzień warsztatów i wykładów, ale nie zwalniamy tempa! Następnie Karolina z zespołu Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego zaprezentowała warsztaty pt. „Edukacja prawna poprzez sztukę”. Prawo i sztuka? Byliśmy dość zaskoczeni, że te dziedziny mogą się ze sobą łączyć 🤔

📚Następnie odbył się wykład Jacka Wasika, szefa regionalnego przedstawicielstwa Komisji Europejskiej. Dyskutowaliśmy na temat edukacji kulturalnej we współczesnym wielokulturowym społeczeństwie europejskim, w kontekście działań kulturalnych i popularyzatorskich podejmowanych przez Parlament Europejski i jego przedstawicielstwa.

🔎Później odbyły się wykłady z grupą studencką „Archeo” przedstawione przez Laurę Fryźlewicz, Alamelę Sobieraj i Witolda Warmuzka. Dyskutowaliśmy o kolonizacji prehistorii, dekolonizacji sztuki Ameryki Północnej oraz o tym, jak artefakty władzy były wykorzystywane w historii do legitymizacji władzy. Dzień zakończyliśmy ogniskiem i lekcją parzenia naparów ziołowych, średniowiecznej kuchni oraz imprezą Archeo-Etno!

✨Day 5, time to visit Wrocław! The trip started with a visit at the polish cultural partners headquarters - Wrocławski Instytut Kultury ! There we enjoyed a short presentation and disucsion led by Paulina Brelińska-Garsztka about selected projects and residencies of AIR Wro - mobility program for artists and cultural practitioners runned by WIK.

🏛️Next we visited the Four Domes Pavilion. The guide told us about the history of the place, and then we began discussing and viewing Magdalena Abakanowicz's works. We learned about various works by this artist, including abakans, ‘The Crowd and the Cage’, ropes and amorphous figures.Then we were able to create our own works inspired by Abakanowicz's creations. We used jute, glue and plasticine.

🎈We finished the day with the night reflections about our trip - we had to skip the morning reflections, as you can see - we had quite the schedule to follow! Enjoy some of the photos that were taken during this excursion!

✨Dzień 5, czas odwiedzić Wrocław! Wycieczka rozpoczęła się od wizyty w siedzibie polskich partnerów kulturalnych – Wrocławski Instytut Kultury! Tam obejrzeliśmy krótką prezentację i wysłuchaliśmy wykładu Pauliny Brelińskiej-Garsztki na temat wybranych projektów i rezydencji AIR Wro – programu mobilności dla artystów i praktyków kultury prowadzonego przez WIK.

🏛️Następnie odwiedziliśmy Pawilon Czterech Kopuł. Przewodnik opowiedział nam o historii tego miejsca, a następnie rozpoczęliśmy dyskusję i oglądanie dzieł Magdaleny Abakanowicz. Poznaliśmy różne prace tej artystki, w tym abakany, „Tłum i klatka”, liny i amorficzne figury. Następnie mogliśmy stworzyć własne prace inspirowane twórczością Abakanowicz. Wykorzystaliśmy jutę, klej i plastelinę.

🎈Dzień zakończyliśmy wieczornymi refleksjami na temat naszej wycieczki – musieliśmy pominąć poranne refleksje, jak widać – mieliśmy dość napięty harmonogram! Zapraszamy do obejrzenia zdjęć zrobionych podczas tej wycieczki!

📚 Day 4 of our summer school! The day started with a guided tour of Krzyżowa and a discussion about history of Central Europe. Then Agnieszka Sobieska prepared her workshop about anti-discrimination based on LEGO!

🧕 We had another workshop with Agnieszka, the topic was "Women's Muslim Clothing in the Contemporary European Legal and Cultural Context". Afterwards Klaudia Kaptur prepared a lecture and discussion on "Decolonial Feminism".

🍲 After all the lectures our hunger for knowledge was satisfied, but suddenly our hunger for food grew even stronger—so we kicked off a “workshop of national cuisines.” There, we rolled up our sleeves and learned how to prepare delicious dishes from Central and Eastern Europe (with varying levels of culinary success, but lots of fun).

🌙 Then we said "goodnight Krzyżowa, see you soon" because in the morning we left for our excursion to Wrocław! More on that soon.

🇵🇱📚Dzień 4 naszej szkoły letniej rozpoczął się od zwiedzania Krzyżowej z przewodnikiem i dyskusji na temat historii Europy Środkowej. Następnie Agnieszka Sobieska przygotowała warsztaty dotyczące przeciwdziałania dyskryminacji z wykorzystaniem klocków LEGO!

🧕Później odbyły się kolejne warsztaty z Agnieszką, tym razem na temat „Strój muzułmański kobiet we współczesnym kontekście prawnym i kulturowym Europy”. Następnie Klaudia Kaptur przygotowała wykład oraz dyskusję dotyczącą feminizmu dekolonialnego.

🍲Po wszystkich wykładach nasze pragnienie wiedzy zostało zaspokojone, ale nagle jeszcze bardziej wzrosło nasze pragnienie jedzenia – więc rozpoczęliśmy „warsztaty kuchni narodowych”. Tam zakasaliśmy rękawy i nauczyliśmy się przygotowywać pyszne dania z Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej (z różnym skutkiem kulinarnym, ale przy świetnej zabawie).

🌙Następnie powiedzieliśmy „dobranoc Krzyżowa, do zobaczenia wkrótce”, ponieważ rano wyruszyliśmy na wycieczkę do Wrocławia! Więcej na ten temat wkrótce.

🎨Update from day 3 of our summer school! We started the day with a lecture on Critical pedagogy and continued our discussion about arts education in this context.

🧘After that some of us enjoyed a short break whilst others participated in yoga led by one of our participants!

🫧Later on we had two workshops - the first one was about glass art where we could try and prepare our own pieces of art. This workshop was carried out by Katarzyna Krej - a Wrocław based sculptor and glass designer.

🇵🇱Aktualności z trzeciego dnia naszej szkoły letniej! Dzień rozpoczęliśmy od wykładu na temat pedagogiki krytycznej i kontynuowaliśmy dyskusję na temat edukacji artystycznej w tym kontekście.

🧘Następnie część z nas skorzystała z krótkiej przerwy, podczas gdy inni wzięli udział w zajęciach jogi prowadzonych przez jednego z uczestników!

🫧Później odbyły się dwa warsztaty – pierwszy dotyczył sztuki szklarskiej, podczas którego mogliśmy spróbować swoich sił w tworzeniu własnych dzieł sztuki. Warsztaty poprowadziła Katarzyna Krej – rzeźbiarka i projektantka szkła z Wrocławia.

📊Drugi warsztat dotyczył innowacyjnych metod opartych na naszym raporcie „Identyfikacja innowacyjnych metod”, który można znaleźć na naszej stronie!

𝄞Dzień zakończyliśmy irlandzką muzyką i tańcem połączonymi z dyskusją na temat krytycznej kompetencji kulturowej poprowadzonymi przez Łukasza Potocznego.

🛎️Time to share our experiences from day two of our summer school!

🎨We started the day with a discussion on Arts Education where we could exchange our experiences. Then we had a lecture and debate on decoloniality and critical cultural literacy.

🖌After that our day was filled with artistic workshops such as: creating "trash books" and preparing our own linocuts. These workshops showcased that not only art-based methods are the best way to showcase our inner thoughts and feelings. It also proved that art-based methods can be sustainable and fun!

🤗It was a great time when we could express oursvelves through artistic methods whilst discussing about significant matters such as decoloniality and critical cultural literacy.

🛎️ Czas podzielić się wrażeniami z drugiego dnia naszej letniej szkoły!

🎨Dzień zaczęliśmy od dyskusja na temat edukacji artystycznej, podczas której mogliśmy podzielić się swoimi doświadczeniami. Następnie odbył się wykład i debata na temat dekolonializmu i krytycznej kompetencji kulturowej.

🖌Później nasz dzień wypełniły warsztaty artystyczne, takie jak: tworzenie „książek ze śmieci” i przygotowywanie własnych linorytów. Warsztaty te utwierdziły nas w przekonaniu, że metody oparte na sztuce są najlepszym sposobem na pokazanie naszych wewnętrznych myśli i uczuć. I udowodniły również, że te metody mogą być ekologiczne i przyjemne!

🤗To był wspaniały czas, kiedy mogliśmy wyrażać siebie poprzez sztukę, jednocześnie dyskutując o ważnych sprawach, takich jak dekolonializm i krytyczna kompetencja kulturowa.

We are in the middle of our programme of Summer School in Krzyżowa! It's been such a unique experience and would love to share some memories with you ✨

⛰️ The first day was dedicated for integration and getting to know the beatiful place of Krzyżowa – a park and palace complex nearby the Sudeten Mountains, the former estate of the von Moltke family, known for its opposition activities during World War II.

🏛️Today, it is the International Conference Centre and the seat of the Krzyżowa Foundation for Mutual Understanding in Europe, established thirty years ago. Krzyżowa is a non-governmental organization whose aim is to strive to overcome divisions and the desire to develop relations in Europe based on mutual respect, dialogue and readiness for reconciliation.

🎓 We couldn't have picked a better place to discuss decoloniality, cultural literacy, critical pedagogy and community-based research through lectures but also art-based methods and workshops.

🇵🇱 Jesteśmy w trakcie realizacji programu Letniej Szkoły w Krzyżowej! To dla nas naprawdę niezwykły czas, dlatego chcielibyśmy podzielić się z Wami wspomnieniami z ostatnich dni. ✨

⛰️ Pierwszy dzień poświęciliśmy integracji i poznaniu pięknego miejsca, jakim jest Krzyżowa – zespół parkowo-pałacowy na Przedgórzu Sudeckim, dawna posiadłość rodu von Moltke, znana z działalności opozycyjnej w czasie II wojny światowej.

🏛️Dziś mieści się tu Międzynarodowe Centrum Konferencyjne i siedziba Fundacji Krzyżowa dla Porozumienia Europejskiego, założonej trzydzieści lat temu. Krzyżowa to organizacja pozarządowa, której celem jest dążenie do przezwyciężania podziałów i dążenie do rozwoju relacji w Europie opartych na wzajemnym szacunku, dialogu i gotowości do pojednania.

🎓 Nie mogliśmy wybrać lepszego miejsca do dyskusji o dekolonializmie, edukacji kulturowej, pedagogice krytycznej i badaniach społecznościowych poprzez wykłady, a także metody artystyczne i warsztaty.

Happy summer from the Danish team!🌞

The photo is from our trip to Viborg to visit , who had organized an exciting day that included a tour of . We explored the skate area and the legal graffiti wall in the beautiful weather, and indoors we saw the recording studio, the creative corner, the street basketball area, and much more. During the tour, we learned more about how education and street sports can be connected, and how GAME Viborg collaborates with educational institutions in the local area.🏀

In Viborg, Gro and Karoline arranged the first part of a series of workshops on music, which aim to collectively deepen our understanding of our own cultural literacies within the team and in relation to our case area.

Vi så skate-området og den lovlige graffiti-væg i det flotte vejr, og indendørs så vi lydstudiet, det kreative hjørne, street basket området og meget mere. Til rundvisningen hørte vi mere om hvordan uddannelse og gadeidræt kan hænge sammen, og hvordan GAME Viborg arbejder sammen med uddannelsesinstitutioner i lokalområdet.🏀

I Viborg havde Gro og Karoline arrangeret første del af en række workshops om musik, der i fællesskab skal gøre os klogere på vores egne kulturelle literacies i teamet og på vores caseområde.

What a fantastic field observation we’ve experienced yesterday🥰. At the end of June📅, the traditional Festival Lent brings the Art kamp to Slovenia’s second-largest city Maribor. There, children, young people, and adults come together in a spirit of creativity💡, exploring various forms of art and letting their imagination run wild under the shade of trees🍃🌳 in the city park.

From working with circus props🤹‍♀🎪, creative board games, theatre for grieving children🎭, stitched illustration, finger puppets, concerts🎶🎷, instrument-making, canvas painting🎨🖌, learning about the history of various crafts, to stone painting🖌, wood carving, clothing repair✂👗👕, an outdoor library📚, workshops—the list goes on.

The Slovenian team’s office yesterday was truly enviable😎, and witnessing how the local community creates and lives cultural literacy was nothing short of inspiring.

Kakšno fantastično opazovanje na terenu je za nami😍🥰. Konec junija se tradicionalno v Mariboru v sklopu Festivala Lent v mestnem parku odvija Art kamp. Tam se otroci, mladi in odrasli družijo v ustarjalnem duhu💡, spoznavajo različne oblike umetnosti in pod senco košatih dreves🍃 pustijo domišljiji prosto pot.

Delo s cirkuškimi rekviziti🤹‍♂️🤹🏾🤹🏿‍♀️, družabne ustvarjalne igre, gledališče za žalujoče otroke🎭, naprstne lutke, koncerti🥁🎶, izdelava glasbil, slikanje na platno🖌, spoznavanje tradicionalnih obrti, poslikave kamnov, rezbrajenje, popravljanje oblačil✂🪡🧵🧶, knjižnica na prostem📚, literarne ustvarjalnice ... seznam se kar ne konča😎.

Pisarna slovenske ekipe je bila res zavidanja vredna, opazovati, kako lokalna skupnost ustvarja in živi kulturno pismenost pa navdihujoče😊.

A few days ago, we wrapped up our first conference “Community-Based Research, Decolonial Theory and Education”. What an experience it was!🤩🥳

We had an opportunity to check our progress✅, get fresh ideas💡, share perspectives and address issues related to fieldwork and similar. From rich discussions to new ideas, fieldwork reflections🗝🔎 to shared laughs😂, we came away inspired.

We’re taking these insights with us as we continue our work in research, art, and promoting critical cultural literacy across Europe. Thanks to everyone who joined us! 😍
