The green hills of Røsnæs are home to a number of Danish wine yards. Here, Helix Lab Fellow Ke Xu has examined white wine made from the Solaris grape for his MSc thesis project, in collaboration with

And the results are in: Danish Solaris wine tastes of citrus and green apple, has a relatively dry style, pronounced acidity, and a light, crisp mouthfeel.
But why is this important to know?

According to Jacob Bruun Jensen, owner of Dyrehøj and co-supervisor on Ke’s project, the project is significant to the wine industry, because it contributes by identifying markers and setting standards for the product. Not just for Dyrehøj, but for Danish wine in general.

Well done, Ke!

At Helix Lab we are really excited to contribute to a diverse range of projects locally and are thrilled that we are continuing the collaboration with Dyrehøj this semester.

MEET ALASKA AND PACO 🦅

Alaska and Paco, two American bald eagles, live at Samsø Falkecenter. And last week the Helix Lab team had the pleasure of experiencing take-off and landing at very close proximity.

It's a bit like welcoming Fellows and then seeing them off six months later. But with more pointy beaks. And claws.

Wine Tasting at Helix Lab!

Our Fellow Ke Xu, who is doing his MSc Master thesis at the University of Copenhagen, in collaboration with Dyrehøj Vingaard, is having a wine tasting at Helix Lab, as part of his project.

Ke is looking for participants, who would like to join the tasting on May 12. or 13. from 12-17 at Helix Lab, meeting room 3.

Ke’s project explores how consumers perceive Danish Solaris wine and what sensory characteristics may contribute to its typicality. The purpose of the tasting is to collect participants’ impressions of Danish Solaris wines, and the idea of what may be considered “typical” for Danish Solaris wine, also how much you like Danish Solaris wine.

No previous wine knowledge is required, as the study is interested in personal and honest consumer perceptions. Participants will be asked to fill out an information sheet and consent form.

Anyone who would like to join is welcome, please sign up via link in comments/bio!

The inspiring mycologists Lene Lange gave a most interesting Tech Talk yesterday.

We are in awe of your ability to communicate how fungi are both capable of saving the world and of how uncannily like humans they are.

Thank you so much for educating us on the importance of this magnificent organism 🍄‍🟫

Helix Lab is Part of Kalundborg DOX 🍿🎬

The documentary film festival DOX is coming to Kalundborg, and at Helix Lab we have the pleasure of hosting a screening, followed by a reflective conversation.

On the 17th of March we dim the lights and press play on the fascinating and highly relevant documentary Intelligence Rising, a thought-provoking film where thinkers and leaders from countries across the world participate in a geopolitical wargame of AI.

After the screening we invite the audience to participate in a conversation on how AI gradually is becoming a greater part of our lives, and what this means for the way we work, learn, make decisions and our overall being in the world.

About the film:
Marc Warner is an AI entrepreneur and an expectant father. He has spent most of his life developing artificial intelligence. Now, he spends most of his time wondering whether it was a good idea in the first place. For this reason, he brings together the world’s top thinkers—including Yuval Harari—and leaders from the EU, China, and the USA for a “war game”: a geopolitical role-playing exercise in which participants confront potential scenarios for future global crises.

The result is an incredibly fascinating, eye-opening, and thought-provoking—and not least, highly dramatic—film, where the audience virtually sits at the table as some of the world’s sharpest minds attempt to find answers to the threats posed by both AI and each other. Representatives from the tech industry, the military, and the humanities are also citizens of states with different interests and agendas. Has artificial intelligence set off a zero-sum game, or is it, for once, in everyone’s best interest to play on the same team?
