ISH awarded Erasmus+ grant for digital citizenship project

We're pleased to share that International School of Hellerup has been awarded an Erasmus+ grant to support a project on digital citizenship and the responsible use of technology, developed in partnership with Cité Scolaire Léonard Limosin in Limoges, France.

Digital citizenship has been a strategic focus area for ISH for several years, identified together with our school community. This project follows our recent selection as an early adopter school for the IB's digital examination sessions in May 2027, another part of the same ongoing work.

From 5 to 9 October, ten Diploma Programme students will travel to Limoges to work alongside their French peers. Together, the students will co-create a shared framework covering academic honesty in digital environments, safe and ethical digital participation, and internet safety and wellbeing.

Funded by the European Union. You can read more about the project on our website: https://ish.dk/learning/high-school-ib/international-partnerships-projects

ISH is taking part in Naturvidenskabsfestival for the second year running. The nationwide festival runs in Week 39 (21-25 September), and this year's national theme is "Alt hænger sammen", everything is connected: how small details tie into the bigger picture, how nothing truly disappears but everything changes, and how language and symbols carry scientific ideas.

At ISH, our contribution to that theme is temperature, one concept linking physics, biology, chemistry and Environmental Systems and Societies into a single story. Thanks to a grant from Festivalpuljen 2026, the science department has added new equipment for temperature investigations, including sous vide temperature control sticks and digital scales, which students will be using throughout the week.

Our High School welcomed H.E. Manish Prabhat, Ambassador of India to Denmark, today for a conversation with students about studying and working internationally, identity, future skills, technology and the opportunities that come from living and learning in an increasingly interconnected world.

Students had the opportunity to ask questions directly about diplomacy, international careers, and India's growing role in technology and education. The Ambassador also met with school leadership as part of the visit.

Our thanks to Ambassador Prabhat and the Embassy of India in Copenhagen for contributing to our students' learning beyond the classroom.

PYP5 visited Copenhagen Zoo as part of their "Who we are" unit of inquiry, exploring the central idea that physical forms adapt and change over time. During the visit, students took part in a workshop on animal classification, looking closely at the similarities and differences between species and making connections to what they've been learning about evolution, adaptation, and survival.

The zoo visit is one part of a wider exploration of these ideas. The class will also hear from a guest speaker with first-hand observations of the Galápagos Islands, and will visit The Blue Planet aquarium to continue learning about adaptation in aquatic environments.

Through these experiences, students are connecting classroom learning to real observations, and continuing to ask questions about how and why living things change over time.

Thank you to all the Middle School parents who joined us last night for our Parent Welcome Evening!

It was wonderful opening our doors to welcome families back for the new school year. Parents explored curriculum overviews with subject teachers in their classrooms, then joined their child’s advisory teacher and fellow families for a closer look at advisory life.

Evenings like this are a real chance to connect directly, put faces to names, and build the strong home-school partnership that helps our students thrive. We look forward to a wonderful year of learning and community together. 🤝

As we settle into the new school year, International School of Hellerup is finding the rhythm that makes our community what it is, and this year, that rhythm carries a particular focus. Our Head of School, Elmiye Kolukisa, shares her reflection below.

Restorative practices sit at the heart of our work in 2026-2027. Not as a policy on paper, but as something we're already seeing take shape in these early weeks: in how conflicts are being met with curiosity instead of judgement, in how relationships are being repaired rather than simply managed, and in the small, deliberate moments where students and staff alike are learning to listen before reacting.

For our returning students, this has meant reconnecting with a community that is intentionally building a culture of accountability and belonging together.

For the newest students joining our ISH family, it has meant discovering, from the very start, what it feels like to be part of a place where mistakes are treated as opportunities to repair and grow, not simply to be corrected.

These early weeks matter. They are where our values of care, courage, and growth mindset aren't just stated, they're practiced, one conversation, one relationship, one restorative moment at a time.

We are proud of the intentionality our students, staff, and families are bringing to this focus, and we look forward to deepening this work together throughout the year ahead.

ISH staff took part in DHL Stafetten at Fælledparken yesterday, joining one of the world's largest relay races alongside thousands of runners across Copenhagen.

It's a nice reminder that our school community extends well beyond the classroom, colleagues from different departments and campuses came together to run, cheer each other on, and enjoy an evening outdoors together.

A great start to the year in High School! 💙

Our students have spent the past two weeks settling in and building connections, and this week, started their subjects for the year.

Our IB students enjoyed the annual High School retreat in Ishøj, with a beach picnic, bonfire, talent show and a range of activities, alongside academic milestones for MYP5, DP1 and DP2, including the first-ever ISH Sparks, putting logic, general knowledge and creativity to the test.

Our STX students kicked off their year in the same spirit, with an orientation trip to Roskilde and a Nature Day.

The whole High School community also came together for our first assembly of the year. Head of School Ms Kolukisa welcomed students with a simple challenge: be good at saying hello, and make everyone you pass in the hallway feel like part of the community. Principals Ms Cano and Mr Gezen, of the IB and STX respectively, welcomed students and talked about our school's mission and values, before the assembly wrapped up with a lighthearted fun-fact game about their teachers.

Two weeks in, there has already been plenty of energy, laughter and new connections. We're looking forward to a great year ahead.
