From classroom project to community initiative 📚🌍
Two of our NIS learners have taken their Global Perspectives project beyond the classroom by starting an English-language book club at Hørsholm Library.

As part of their project, the learners are exploring how digital media influence young people’s reading habits. But rather than only investigating the topic, they decided to create something themselves: a space where children and young people can meet, read, discuss books and connect with others through English.

With support from Hørsholm Library, the book club is organised and led by the learners themselves, from choosing books together with participants to planning activities and discussions.

We love seeing learning develop into initiative, collaboration and meaningful engagement with the local community. A great example of our learners using their ideas and learning to create something for others💙

Thank you to Hørsholm Library for supporting this!

Today, we’re celebrating! 🎉🎂
Our NIS/NGG community has now grown to more than 1,400 learners – the highest number in 14 years. It’s a milestone we are incredibly proud of and grateful for.

A big thank you to all our families for the trust you place in us, and of course to our dedicated staff for their commitment every day.

And most importantly, to our more than 1,400 learners: thank you for the curiosity, creativity, energy and all the other lovely things you bring to learning, to each other and to our community at NIS and NGG💙🌍

Definitely something worth celebrating!

Cross Country in Odense!🏃‍♀️🌧️
Last week, a group of Primary runners travelled to Odense for the 10th edition of the annual DISNAC Cross Country event, joining learners from five international schools for a day of running, competition and community.

Despite the wet conditions, our learners showed great resilience and determination out on the course. They also had the chance to be adaptable and try something new, as this year’s event introduced a jumping competition – where NIS achieved an impressive second place! 🥈During the races, our runners paced themselves carefully and timed their finishes well – with NIS bringing home two gold medals! 🥇🥇

Most importantly, our learners were respectful competitors throughout the day, cheering on runners from all five schools and supporting one another along the way.

Well done to all our athletes for a great day of cross country, teamwork and sportsmanship! 💙👏

Thank you for a fantastic Sports Day! 🥳🏃‍♀️🏐
On Friday, learners from across NIS and NGG came together for a day full of movement, teamwork and friendly competition.

At Hørsholm Idrætspark, our older learners took on everything from cricket and ultimate frisbee to handball, softball, volleyball and football, while our younger learners enjoyed an active day of games, rugby, hockey and kids’ volleyball at school⚽🏏🏑

Across every activity, it was wonderful to see learners encouraging one another, working as a team and showing great sportsmanship – while, of course, having plenty of fun along the way! 💙

A big thank you to everyone who helped make the day such a success, and especially to our PE team for organising a great day for our whole-school community! 👏

International Day 2026 is coming! 🌍
On Saturday 19 September, our NIS community will once again come together for one of the most festive days of the year – International Day! 🎉

With families from all over the world, the day is a celebration of the cultures, traditions and perspectives that make our international community so special. Through food, activities, traditional clothing and performances, learners, families and staff will have the opportunity to share a little piece of where they come from and discover more about one another💙

This year, International Day will connect to UN Sustainable Development Goal #11: Sustainable Cities and Communities 🏙️🌱 – inviting us to explore what helps create communities where people feel connected, included and able to thrive.

We can’t wait for another wonderful day of celebrating the diversity of our community – and everything that brings us together🌍✨

NIS families: Keep an eye on School Intra for practical information, sign-ups and details on how you can get involved in representing and celebrating your country on the day! 🙌🌎

A new space for imagination, creativity and possibilities ✨
Yesterday was a special day in Svanereden, our before- and after-school care programme, as we officially welcomed a rather unusual new addition – our very own circus wagon! 🎪

And of course, a circus wagon deserves a proper welcome. There was juggling, red noses and plenty of excitement as the ribbon was cut and the wagon officially became part of Svanereden ✂️🎪

But the most exciting part is that we don’t yet know exactly what it will become. That is something the children will help decide 🌱Over the coming weeks, they will share their ideas and help shape the space. Could it become a creative or woodworking workshop? A cosy hideaway? Somewhere for play, stories and imagination? Or perhaps something the adults haven’t thought of at all? 🎨🔨✨

Giving the children a voice in the process is part of what makes the project special – inviting them to explore ideas, make choices and see how their own contributions can shape the spaces they share.

We can’t wait to see what the future holds for Svanereden’s newest addition! 💙

International mindedness, step by step 🌍
In our new school building, the stairs have become a special part of the learning environment.

Throughout the day, learners settle here to read, work together, talk, draw or simply take a break. Now, the stairs themselves also reflect something important about our international community.

One staircase welcomes everyone in languages from around the world – alongside sign language, Braille, Morse code and even the classic Nokia keypad code. A playful celebration of the many ways we communicate and connect.

Another features the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, which have been part of learning at NIS for many years. They encourage learners to explore global challenges, consider different perspectives and recognise how their own choices and actions connect to the wider world.

As an international UNESCO school, this connects closely with our focus on developing global competence: the knowledge, skills and dispositions to engage thoughtfully with the world and take meaningful action, both locally and globally🇺🇳

A little more of what we value at NIS, built into the spaces we share every day💙🌍

Growing through languages, cultures and connections 🌍
With around 80 languages represented at our school, learners, families and teachers experience what it means to be part of a truly international community every day. While English is our shared language of instruction, we celebrate and value the many languages and cultures our learners bring with them.

Being part of NGG also gives our learners a unique opportunity to engage with Danish language and culture. Through Danish lessons, shared spaces, break times and SFO (before- and after-school care), children learn, play and build friendships across our international and Danish departments, creating authentic connections that extend beyond the classroom.

For us, language learning is about much more than communication. It is about nurturing curiosity, understanding different perspectives and developing the confidence to engage with both the local community and the wider world.

Through these everyday experiences, our learners strive to grow into internationally minded young people who feel connected to their host country while embracing the richness of our global community💙🌍

A special place in the NIS community from day one 💙🌍
Tomorrow, a new learning journey begins as we welcome our new Year 1 learners to NIS 🎒✨

Our IB students will be there to welcome some of the youngest members of our school as they take their first steps into school life.

At opposite ends of their learning journeys, our Year 1 and IB students represent something very special about our community: you arrive being welcomed, and over the years, you grow into someone who can welcome and inspire others🌱

For our Year 1 learners, tomorrow marks the beginning of many years of learning, growing, friendships and new experiences. For our IB students, it is a chance to look back at just how far a learning journey can take you – and to help make the beginning of that journey special for someone else.

We can’t wait to welcome our new Year 1s into our wonderful school community tomorrow! 🎒🌍

A new school year is just around the corner 🥳
While our learners are enjoying the last days of the summer holidays, we’ve been busy getting ready for the new school year – and now we can’t wait to welcome both new and familiar faces on Monday and Tuesday.

Principal Thomas Thrane has a little welcome message for all Danish and international families before we officially kick off another exciting school year.

We’re looking forward to seeing you all very soon! 💙
