Tak til Maria Henriette Sørensen for en smuk og poetisk dækning både tekst- og fotomæssigt af Danske Landskabsarkitekters besøg i Sct. Hans Naturhave for nylig💚

HVAD VED JEG er en række faglige arrangementer eksklusivt af medlemmer for medlemmer. For et par uger siden inviterede landskabsarkitekt MAA/MDL/MPM Helle Nebelong til rundvisning i den nyligt indviede Sct. Hans Naturhave i Roskilde

Great day yesterday with my visionary friend Charlie. There was a lot to talk about. First of all our shared interest in children and their right to free play without eternal adult supervision and control, children's access to nature and the almost unmanageable global challenges. Hope and believe in the good, trust between people and strengthen children's rights and influence are some key points to fight for. Here we are looking into the wonderful book of another wonderful, American friend, Susan G. Solomon, The Science of Play 💚💚💚💚💚

Today 3 December is International Day of Persons with Disabilities and I came to think about a pilot project for a universal designed playground in Copenhagen that I was engaged in twenty years ago.
The Norwegian fairytale “East of the Sun and West of the Moon” was the source of inspiration of landscape architect Stine Cecilie Brink, when she sat down to design a universally accessible playground in south-eastern Copenhagen.
I was the playground’s project manager and no stranger to Universal Design. My vision for the playground was for it to become a public place for all children to come irrespective of age, rank, ability, disadvantages, and competencies. Stine and I had a close and constructive talk about inclusion and skilled craftsmen were involved to design unique elements for the playground.

In 2003 East of the Sun and West of the Moon opened to the public. We made a pamphlet about the project and sent it to all municipalities in Denmark to encourage city planners, landscape architects and decisionmakers to build universal designed playgrounds.

The many fairytale characters are featured throughout the playground. Various plants add to the sensory experience. Winding paths across the hilly grounds are designed with various degrees of slopes, allowing children in wheelchairs and on foot to choose the “just right” challenge for themselves.

Although the playground was designed with accessibility as a top priority, it is challenging for children of all abilities.

The playground has been renovated, maintained and been taken care of during the years by City of Copenhagen, the owner.

UIA World Congress CPH 2023 had “Sustainable Futures” as main theme with the headline “Leave No One Behind” and it was organized around UN’s 17 sustainable development goals with a special focus on inclusion and diversity.

My first sensory garden targeted children with special needs opened more than thirty years ago and I have since then been more and more aware of that all people are unique and have different needs during life, different skills and individual ways to sense the spaces around us. There’s no “perfect” human figure like Leonardo da Vinci’s “Vitruvian Man” dated 1490. As city planners, architects, designers and decisionmakers we should always ask ourselves during the whole design process: “Do I leave someone behind?” and “How can I add multisensory qualities to the design and contribute to a better quality of life for people and places?”

SCHOOL IN ILLINOIS BREAKS GROUND ON NEW PLAYGROUND DESIGNED BY DANISH LANDSCAPE ARCHITECT

https://pantagraph.com/news/local/education/watch-now-unit-5-breaks-ground-on-natural-playground-at-hoose-elementary/article_8ad4fa4c-cbd1-11ec-a394-6363b3e1ac77.html

Yesterday, the staff and students at Colene Hoose Elementary School in Normal, Illinois were joined by the donor, Charlie Jobson, and planted the first new trees for the school’s new natural playground.
The natural playground rethinks the entire 16-acre grounds as a place for learning, exploration and play. The design by the well-known Danish landscape architect Helle Nebelong includes an Alphabet Labyrinth, a Snail-Shaped Mound, a River Garden, an Amphitheater and several multi-functional outdoor classrooms, and play settings. Logs, boulders, sand, pebbles, various trees and shrubs – including edible plants – and the meadow, form the basis of the space.
“This will be a wonderful space to engage children in the natural world and inspire them to learn, create, and have daily access to nature,” said Ms. Nebelong. “The seasonal changes and multi different textures will open up and widen the student’s senses and enrich their lives with a myriad of wonderful miracles, they will keep in mind forever. I feel grateful for having the opportunity to participate with my design and the many underlying considerations”.
Charlie Jobson grew up in the town of Normal and has returned to create a natural playground park to honor his mother and father who lived in the community for 40 years. “I believe this project sets a new standard for school and community playgrounds in Normal, Illinois and America.” Mr. Jobson generously donated $5.1 million dollars to create this new space.
Bienenstock Natural Playgrounds based in Ontario, Canada, is managing the project that would be finished by the end of Seoptember.
Colene Hoose students have participated in the project with personal drawings of fish that are transformed into a huge mosaic river by mosaic artist Robin Brailsford, California and will become a central feature in the new playground.

Læs artiklen her på rumsans.dk

Rundt omkring i landet bliver krise- og plejecentres haver passet og plejet af frivillige hænder. Det er godt for brugerne af centrene, som kan nyde haverne. Men det er også godt for de frivillige selv.

TROLLSKOGEN NATURE PLAYGROUND
Trollskogen, Troll Forest, is the name of the new nature play space at Fredriksdal Museum and Botanical Garden that opened to the public 9 April 2020.
I designed a play space where lots of new plants, boulders, tree trunks and spaces with sand and little stones are combined with unique play elements as the huge spider web, mushrooms made out of wood, ‘snakes’ to balance on, a hedgehog hillock with its sticks and ropes, play huts and a swing. The old trees were already there and gives the whole space a wonderful green frame. Here you can see more images from the space:
