🤖 🤿 ACOMAR THE UNDERWATER ROBOT IS THE INNOVATION PROJECT OF THE YEAR 2024! 🎉
The underwater robot ACOMAR removes mussels and other marine growth from offshore structures, securing efficient maintenance to the benefit of the offshore industry.
On Thursday, May 2nd, ACOMAR clinched the title of Energy Cluster Denmark’s Innovation Project of the Year.
The robot is created by Simon Pedersen, Jesper Liniger, Christian Mai, Fredrik Fogh Sørensen, and Malte von Benzon from AAU Energy in partnership with Danish energy companies. The close connection between industry and academia is a fundamental aspect of Aalborg University's problem-based learning model that creates substantial benefits for both parties.
"We aim to address real-world industrial challenges through applied research. In the ACOMAR project, we've harnessed established sensor technology and algorithms, innovatively blending them. It serves as an exemplary case for us," says Jesper Liniger, Associate Professor at AAU Energy.
Glenda Napier, CEO of Energy Cluster Denmark, adds:
"Currently, energy companies annually allocate a three-digit million sum to marine growth removal, solely in the North Sea. The ACOMAR robot will reduce the costs of marine cleaning by 30-40 percent, thereby significantly lowering the overall price of green energy production."
Partners in the project is: SubC Partner, Sihm Højtryk, Mati2ilt, Siemens, Total E&P Danmark, EIVA a/s, and ECD.
Congratulations to all the partners!
