“Every time I think of this film, it makes me feel the pain of the first time I watched it, but it also makes me believe in love.” 💔

Please welcome our new series, Library Unlocked 🍿🔓

Every week, one of the many film nerds at European Film College will recommend a film for the weekend, handpicked from the shelves of the EFC library, which contains over 4,000 titles 🎞️

In this episode, Paavo, who is a student at EFC, recommends In the Mood for Love (2000) ❤️

Director Sylvia Le Fanu knows how difficult it can be starting out as a new filmmaker 🎥🍿

How do you find your way?
How do you adapt your (sometimes vague) ideas into vivid stories on screen?
Should you compromise your creative vision in order to make the rest of the crew happy?

When she visited us this week, she shared some of her most important insights about her own filmmaking process with our students.

Here are 3 key takeaways 👉🏽

Save this post for later if you’re an aspiring filmmaker 🎬

Trust the chaos. 🎬🌪️

Adapting a deeply personal story to the big screen isn’t always easy.

Yesterday, director Sylvia Le Fanu joined us as this year’s first guest teacher. Here she shares her top advice on avoiding the common traps along the way.

Today is a very special day 💐

We’re celebrating Lone, who’s been a matron at EFC for no less than 25 years. At the same time we say goodbye to her, as she’s going on a well-deserved retirement ❤️

Thank you, Lone, for always smiling and bringing positive energy to the school. You will be missed 🫶🏽

It’s widely known that a picture is worth a thousand words. But a personal portrait might be worth a million! ✨

Last week the students were given quite an assignment.
With the help of photographer Mette Frandsen, they each had to create portraits of one of their fellow students. But the portrait wasn’t just meant to show how they look - it should be personal and tell (part of) their story 📖

Here are some of the results ✨

Thank you all for opening up and letting your fellow students in 🫶🏽

And just like that, intro weeks are a wrap 🎬🍿

It’s been a busy couple of weeks filled with lectures, screenings, and watching our new batch of filmmakers become an already tight-knit community.

Now, everyone is easing into the weekend and gearing up for tonight’s theme party before classes officially kick off on Monday 🎉

Welcome to the EFC family everyone ✨

120 students from 22 different countries 🌍

With this many people from this many different places in the world, you might seem different at first. But all of you share one wish: To learn more about filmmaking 🎬

Differences are inevitable and sometimes the most visible at first, but in time we will get to know all of our similarities.

Here at European Film College you really get to shake things up, make mistakes, be curious, learn, and grow - both as individuals and as a community ❤️

We’re beyond excited to meet all of you, and we can’t wait to get to know you even better.

Please show the new students some love in the comments 🫶🏽

Big things are happening at European Film College! 📣

Thanks to a generous donation from Nordea-fonden, we are officially transforming 6,500 square metres into out new outdoor learning environment The Film Garden. Here cinematic art, biodiversity, and community will meet.

The area will feature native plant species, winding paths, benches, and an orangery. It will serve as a living laboratory for our 120 annual students to explore natural light, sound, and ecological processes in their film productions. 📽️🌱

Best of all, Filmhaven is also designed to be a new green gathering space for Ebeltoft and our local community. 💚
Planning is officially underway, and we can’t wait to invite local residents to upcoming opening events, themed evenings, and activities. Stay tuned! 🐝

🎬 This year, we're welcoming back familiar faces to European Film College!

We are thrilled to announce that Nicole Palo and Mathias Dombrink are returning to EFC - Nicole as our new screenwriting teacher, and Mathias as our editing teacher. 🍿✨

Nicole is a Belgian-American screenwriter and director, and an alumna of European Film College. She wrote and directed the feature films Get Born (2008) and Emma Peeters (2018), which closed Venice's Giornate degli Autori and earned her the Best Director Award at the Monte-Carlo Comedy Film Festival. Her latest feature script, Indigo Monday, has received international recognition, including being named a finalist at Scriptapalooza and selected for the Plume & Pellicule scriptwriting workshop.

Mathias comes from Germany and is a film editor with a background in fine art. He has worked across fiction, documentary, and animation. In 2005, Mathias began teaching at the National Film and Television School in England, where he had previously graduated from the MA Editing programme. In addition to England, Mathias has taught in Germany, Austria, Norway, and Denmark. He regards students as fellow professionals in training, focusing on shared learning and encouraging them to explore, reflect on, articulate, and discuss their own personal and artistic vision.

Returning to EFC is a true homecoming, as both Nicole and Mathias have previously taught at the school.

We're happy to have you back 🙏
