What to do when you have a group with an unbalance level? That is the issue I have to deal with today
This month, I had my first student with dyslexia.
One of my main principles is to make my lessons accessible to everyone, regardless of their condition or background. This student seemed happy with my assistance after the course, but I still wonder whether everything was correct and how I could improve.
For that reason, I would like to hear thoughts from people with dyslexia and other disabilities in language learning, including what was your main challenge and which tools you find useful.
[Post in Spanish since it is for natives and C1-C2 students]
This video is in Spanish because it is for high levels and natives, about a common mistake!
“I feel like I’m a different person when I speak another language.” 🤔
A student told me this after class recently — and it’s something I hear quite often.
There’s actually science behind it. Language doesn’t just change what we say, but how we think, express emotions, and interact. Each language carries its own cultural rules: directness, politeness, confidence, and negotiation style.
This is especially relevant at work 💼🌍
Many people learn a language for a specific purpose (like business) and rely heavily on direct translation. The problem? They also transfer their native cultural style into the new language — often without realising it.
What sounds clear and efficient in one culture can come across as rude, vague, or untrustworthy in another. And yes, this can even affect negotiations and professional relationships.
So no, your personality doesn’t really change.
But different sides of it show up depending on the language and culture you’re using.
As a Spanish teacher in Copenhagen, I truly believe learning a language is about more than words. It’s about learning how to communicate.
Have you experienced this when working or speaking in another language? 👇✨
Today my students asked me about expressions to say that n you are talking badly about someone. Here you have some :)
