The motivation to make game girl workshops with the target group from the Middle Eastern minorities started at a talk at Nordic Game Conference 2010, where the subject was “The emerging Arabic market”. We were a bit puzzled because – what roles and interests would the women and girls have in this development? The storytelling in most of the computer games developed are told from a Western, male pe

Dear friends,

We're reaching out to you because Game Girl Workshop is cooking up new plans, and you can help realise them!

***If you do not have a lot of time, or are simply impatient, just go to the last section.

Since 2010, GGW has been inspiring girls to design their own video games telling their own personal stories. We've worked with girls in Palestine, Saudi Arabia, and Scandinavia, and the response has been amazing--check out past projects - gamegirlworkshop.org - and a video from our participant Lujayn Kanaan! https://vimeo.com/229113526

Sadly, it's 2018 and we still see women and girls underrepresented in the tech and entertainment industry, not much has changed since 2010!

The need for creative and expressive spaces for diverse girls to use technology on their own terms has never been greater.

We’re building a long-term plan to work with girls and teens in marginalised regions to teach game-making. We’re growing GGW beyond one-time workshops and into ongoing programs driven by members of local communities. These programs will empower girls in their daily lives over a period of years.

To do this, we need the help of a Danish development grant (CISU). This grant would allow us to work together with communities in previous workshop sites to build region-specific plans which address the ongoing needs and interests of the participants.

We need your help to apply for the grant. More specifically, we need 50 people to stand with us and support us through a GGW membership.

***The GGW Membership

Becoming a GGW member is easy--we just need a symbolic monthly donation of at least 1 cent or even 1€. Or if you would like to support us with more, please do!

To activate your membership:

• Choose to become a member and pay via PayPal or bank transaction here (we have attached an explanation in a pdf)
• Click the "monthly payment" box
• Mention your name
• You can stop your membership at any time

Please share this call as broadly as possible with your friends, network, and anyone who may identify with Game Girl Workshop’s mission to empower girls in STEM.

Thank you so much in advance,

The Game Girl Workshop Team

Game Girl Workshop went on a research trip to Saudi Arabia. We met with some different organisations and talked about collaborate doing some workshops. It would be very exciting to go, let's hope it works out. - And the sun was extremely strong, that's why Andrea's eyes are half-closed ;)
