Freon-40 found in surroundings of a young star in ALMA survey led by StarPlan astronomers, as well as toward Comet 67P with the Rosetta mission. Discovery provides important information about the link between distant protostars and our own Solar System.
ALMA and Rosetta Detect Freon-40 in Space - Dashing Hopes that Molecule May be Marker of Life
Observations made with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) and ESA’s Rosetta mission, have revealed the presence of the organohalogen Freon-40 in gas around both an infant star and a comet. Organohalogens are formed by organic processes on Earth, but this is the first ever detect...

Early formation of planetary building blocks inferred from Pb isotopic ages of chondrules
The most abundant components of primitive meteorites (chondrites) are millimeter-sized glassy spherical chondrules formed by transient melting events in the solar protoplanetary disk. Using Pb-Pb dates of 22 individual chondrules, we show that primary production of chondrules in the early solar syst...

Over 18.000 gæster lagde vejen forbi Geologisk Museum og Botanisk Have på Kulturnatten.

More Earth-like Planets in the Galaxy | STARPLAN
It had previously been thought that planets were more likely to form around stars with a high content of heavier elements. But a new study led by researchers at the Centre for Star and Planet Formation shows that small planets can form around very different types of stars including those that are re...

ESO - eso1204 - Planet Population is Plentiful
eso1204 - Planet Population is Plentiful . An international team, including three astronomers from the European Southern Observatory (ESO), has used the technique of gravitational microlensing to measure how common planets are in the Milky Way. After a six-year search that surveyed millions of stars...

A wealth of habitable planets in the Milky Way
Astronomers from the Niels Bohr Institute have discovered that most of the Milky Way’s 100 billion stars have planets that are very similar to the Earth-like planets in our own solar system – Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars...
