Big ideas don't always need big capital.
At the Kwera LUANAR Ladies Entrepreneurship Picnic, female Student Climbers came together to learn, connect, and explore how entrepreneurship can become a pathway to opportunity and impact. Through business idea pitches, entrepreneurial stories, and meaningful conversations, participants discovered that entrepreneurship is less about the money you have and more about the mindset you build.
One of the most inspiring moments of the picnic was seeing participants develop and pitch business ideas that could be started with as little as MK5,000. The exercise addressed a major barrier that prevents many young people from starting businesses: the belief that they need substantial capital to begin. It challenged participants to see even small savings as seed capital, proving that entrepreneurship often begins with resourcefulness and action, not large amounts of money.
A highlight of the day was hearing from Kwera alumna Shakira Madise, who shared her entrepreneurial journey and reflected on how platforms like these help young women build confidence, strengthen their public speaking skills, and develop qualities that support both business and career growth.
Beyond the lessons shared, the picnic created a space for ladies to inspire one another, exchange ideas, and begin seeing themselves not only as future job seekers, but also as future innovators, entrepreneurs, and job creators.

On Wednesday, 3 June 2026, Kwera proudly joined the Centre for Applied Systems Analysis (CASA), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Climate Change, and the Lilongwe City Council in taking a bold step towards building a sustainable and climate-resilient Malawi.
As an organization committed to financing education and advancing sustainable development, Kwera recognizes that protecting our environment is important for the wellbeing of present and future generations. This commitment aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 13: Climate Action and the aspirations of Malawi Vision 2063.
This initiative builds on our ongoing collaboration with CASA, Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources and other stakeholders, including the successful tree-planting exercise along the Lingadzi River, where 350 trees were planted to support environmental restoration efforts. Through partnerships, we can restore degraded landscapes, conserve biodiversity, and strengthen climate resilience across the country.
Together, we are planting more than trees; we are planting hope, resilience, and a sustainable future for Malawi.

From the Kick-off Session in January, through the Bootcamp in March, and culminating in the Final Pitch and Graduation yesterday, the journey of the first cohort of the Kwera Startup Incubator Program has come to a remarkable close.
Bringing together 13 teams from 6 universities, the incubator equipped young innovators and entrepreneurs with the skills and tools to develop business ideas, tackle real-world challenges, and refine their ventures through ideation, testing, prototyping, and pitching.
The journey concluded with a Final Pitch session, where participants presented their ventures in a supportive environment focused on learning, feedback, growth, and continuous improvement. It was inspiring to see a diverse range of innovative solutions, from organic fertiliser production and solar-powered household water purification systems to other ventures addressing real-world challenges. Many of the ideas demonstrated a strong focus on value addition, sustainability, environmentally conscious solutions, and community impact.
A special thank you to Maya Husted Davidsen and Caroline Bøegh Salomonsen from Implement Consulting Group for their guidance and mentorship throughout the program. We also appreciate the encouragement shared during the closing session by Catharina Hogdal, who challenged participants to pitch in a way that ensures they are remembered long after they leave the pitch room.
Congratulations to the first cohort of the Kwera Startup Incubator Program on reaching this important milestone.

Life gets easier when Student Climbers interact, check up on one another, and grow together, and that spirit shaped an interactive session held by Kwera Malawi Head of Programs, Richard Makala with the Student Climbers from University of Malawi - UNIMA after the recent graduation ceremony.
During the session, Richard encouraged students to work hard in school while also building strong meaningful relationships with fellow Student Climbers. He further urged them not to become idle, but to use their time productively by developing entrepreneurial mindsets, exploring opportunities, and growing beyond the classroom.
The gathering created an open and engaging space for students to discuss issues affecting them, share ideas, and interact freely with one another. Through conversations, encouragement, and shared experiences, the session reflected Kwera’s commitment to building a community where young people are empowered to grow, connect, and create impact beyond university life.
