GBIF provides the human and informatics infrastructure to enable primary biodiversity data to be made discoverable and accessible via the Internet.

GBIFโ€”the Global Biodiversity Information Facilityโ€”is an international network and research infrastructure aimed at providing anyone, anywhere, open access to data about all life on Earth. More than 1.8 billion species occurrence records, ranging from museum specimens to amateur observations, are accessible via the GBIF data portal. The data published through GBIF are used for a wide variety of sci

๐Ÿคฏ More than 500k new records have landed in GBIF through the project!

VectorNet is coordinated by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control - ECDC and the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA), aiming to improve preparedness and response for vector-borne diseases.

The most recent dataset represents an up-to-date view of arthropod vectors across Europe and the Mediterranean Basin. The project supports the collection of data on vectors and pathogens in vectors related to both animal and human health.

Uncovering deep insights from one of Earthโ€™s least explored ecosystems ๐ŸŒŠ

A recent study established the first comprehensive checklist of benthic metazoan biodiversity in the deep-sea Clarion-Clipperton Zone (CCZ), a 6 million kmยฒ region in the Pacific Ocean.

Researchers combined data from GBIF, Ocean Biodiversity Information System, International Seabed Authority , and more than 57,000 records from scientific literature. The study documented 436 named species, including 185 species new to science, with many more yet to be described!

Oceans are the largest biome on Earth, and biodiversity data are critical for their management and conservation.
