How all your students should feel when you facilitate Breathwork 🧘🏽💨
Safe and inspired. 🙏🏽
Very few people see the true power of deep breathwork and that can be beautiful, but it can also be intense 🫣
As a facilitator, we have to know what to do when it gets dark and difficult.
When someone becomes disoriented.
When fear comes up.
When emotions become overwhelming.
When the body shakes, releases or simply says “this is a lot.”
And yes — with some powerful breathing practices, people can even pass out.
But none of this is necessarily bad.
I often say:
There is no bad.
There is good — and there is good difficult. 🙏🏽
The difficult moments can be exactly where something is being met, felt and moved through.
The technique is easy.
The real work as a facilitator is being present — and knowing, through feeling and experience, what is right in that moment.
Do I stay close?
Do I ground?
Do I give space?
Do I guide?
Do I simply sit quietly and let the process unfold?
And sometimes the answer is to slow down.
That is especially important in a sauna. Heat, dehydration and powerful breathing can make passing out much more dangerous. I personally wouldn't recommend strong breathwork in a sauna without very experienced facilitation and clear safety measures.
Because our job is not to push people deeper.
It is not to create a breakthrough.
It is to create a space where people feel safe enough to explore whatever comes.
And when it is held well, Breathwork can be incredibly beautiful. ❤️
People can find stillness.
Release emotions.
Feel their body in a completely new way.
Experience deep peace.
Find energy, clarity and presence.
Meet parts of themselves they may have been avoiding.
Sometimes it is easy.
Sometimes it is difficult.
Both can be good.
And the facilitator needs to be able to stay present for both.
Knowing when to guide.
When to wait.
When to hold.
When to let go.
Because the breath already knows how to move.
Our job is to be there — fully present — and feel what the moment is asking for.
Safe enough to surrender.
Supported enough to go deep.
Free enough to discover. 🧘🏽💨❤️

I’m writing this because I hear and see more and more about deep breathwork being offered in saunas, sometimes in very short sessions, online sessions, or by facilitators with relatively little education and experience.
And this is not a criticism.
Breathwork is growing, and I think that is beautiful. 🙏🏽
It is simply inspiration to think about how much there is to understand when we work with something as powerful as the breath.
In many indigenous healing traditions, becoming a healer (read a helper 😉) is not a weekend course. Knowledge is passed from teacher to student through years of apprenticeship, observation, practice and mentorship — sometimes five, ten or more years.
Maybe there is something to learn from that patience.
Because the technique can be easy to learn.
Being present, feeling the person in front of you, understanding what is happening in their body and knowing what is right in each moment — that takes time.
This is serious work.
And it is so incredibly beautiful.
So this is not meant to start a debate.
Just a little inspiration to pause, feel, learn and keep going deeper. 🧘🏽💨
Don’t talk what you don’t walk 🙊
There is good.
And there is good difficult.
Both deserve to be held with presence, respect and care. ❤️
