Cybersecurity Threats to SMBs

Small and Medium-sized Businesses (SMBs) are increasingly becoming prime targets for cybercriminals. Without the vast resources of larger enterprises, SMBs often lack robust cybersecurity defenses, making them attractive to attackers. Key threats include:

Ransomware Attacks: Hackers encrypt the business's data and demand a ransom for its release. Without adequate backups, many SMBs pay the ransom, though there's no guarantee of data recovery.

Phishing Scams: These are deceptive emails or messages designed to trick employees into revealing sensitive information, like passwords or financial details.

Man-in-the-Middle Attacks: Cybercriminals intercept and potentially alter communications between two parties, often to steal data or inject malicious content.

DDoS Attacks: Distributed Denial of Service attacks overload a business's online services, causing them to become inaccessible, potentially leading to significant financial losses.

Internal Threats: Disgruntled employees or careless actions can lead to data breaches or unintentional sharing of confidential information.

Outdated Software: Running outdated software or systems exposes businesses to vulnerabilities that hackers can exploit.

For SMBs, understanding these threats is the first step to mitigation. Investing in cybersecurity training, infrastructure, and regular system updates can significantly reduce the risk of a successful attack.

Remember, while this text provides an overview of threats, it's essential for SMBs to get tailored advice based on their specific industry and operational context.

You can sign up until midnight on Monday and go through the material until Friday evening. Remember to complete the evaluation form and receive your diploma and new skills at the end.
