Malko Academy for Young Conductors is a very intense two-year training programme for young talents from Europe, aged 18-25.

The purpose of the academy is to give young, promising musicians a solid foundation in the skills of conducting

In a busy week with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Maestro Herbert Blomstedt took the time to sit down with students and teachers of Malko Academy for Young Conductors to share his view on the role of the conductor and to answer our questions.

In the end, our students were allowed to borrow Maestro Blomstedt´s scores until the evening concert (Schubert and Berwald). As some of the images show, they were studied thoroughly 🧐

This deeply inspiring meeting was held on November 18th 2022 in DR Koncerthuset, Kongeværelset.

After a series of photoshoots, we can now present all portraits of the Malko Academy Class 2022 - students, conducting teachers and concertmaster.
Per Morten Abrahamsen, Danish master of portrait photography, has created these breathtaking photographs.
Thank you for this amazing work!

Finally, the first weekend in Malko Academy started on September 2nd 2022. The weekends have an intense programme, and the first one especially: 16 hours of lessons, concerts and other activities, including 3½ hours of conducting an ensemble of professional musicians in Beethoven Symphony no. 5 and a first meeting with Fabio Luisi, principal conductor of the Danish National Symphony Orchestra.

What a wonderful start - we can´t wait to have our students back in DR Koncerthuset for the next Malko-weekend in two weeks!
