Congratulations to Shawn on taking 1st at the Colorado State Senior Games this weekend! She ended the meet with a 205lb. back squat, 105lb. bench press, and a PR 250lb. deadlift!

As an oversimplified analogy, think of two cars:
Car A: Max speed = 200mph
Car B: Max speed = 20mph
If we "floor" the gas pedal on each car for just 20s, car A is going to win.
Applying this to sports for example, raising your 1RM will raise your 5RM. In a 40 yard dash, the faster you launch your rocket in the first 10 yards, the faster you'll get to the 40 yard line (assuming you have the capacity to sustain the final 30 yards).
