Kilikai: København og Frederiksbergs kendoklub

Congratulations to Carl and Viktor who both passed ikkyu yesterday. They worked hard, they did great and Kilikai could not be prouder.

This weekend past we held our annual 'no dicks' kendo event. It is a woman centered seminar with two world famous sensei who graciously come and teach our modest group truly inspirational kendo. The event was full of lots of empowering moments, laughter and great fun. Can't wait to do it again next year!

And so 2025 is at its end. Kilikai had a really great year. We held two taikai, hosted our first woman centered internationally attended event, hosted our first dan shinsa, started up the first renmei iai class in Copenhagen, held two renmei iai seminars and provided Japanese sword to over 65 people of diverse ages, genders and backgrounds. We remain committed to our values of providing a safe, nurturing environment for people to learn about traditional Japanese values, grow as people and experience the joy of screaming and hitting people with bamboo swords. We look forward to 2026 as a new year to share the wonder of kendo and iaido with as many people as possible. Let us grow together to become better people and have a great time doing it! 💪

Always a blast, autumn break is over and training is on again, full of energy, laughter, sweat and consensual violence. We have had 6 people come try in the first week. It's always nice to have some new blood.

First iaido class was held on Monday evening. One of the students said the teaching was 'Underviseren var sød, passioneret, dygtig og tålmodig.' Kind, passionate, skillful and patient, just how Kilikai likes it. This looks to be the start of something great!

Monday kicks off Kilikai's new iaido group! Interested in Japanese sword, but not into full contact? Come give the quieter side of kenjutsu a try.

New season in full swing with beginners always welcome! We have keiko three times a week and as of September offer not just kendo, but iaido too! We have many players in armor enjoying kendo as well as new people from ages 7 to 47 trying, loving it and staying. Come see why kendo is so fun!

The energy, spirit, and new friendships were truly inspiring. It’s always amazing to come together, learn from each other, and strengthen the kendo community beyond borders.

A huge thank you to Anna-sensei from Poland and Asun-sensei from Spain for sharing their knowledge, guidance, and passion for kendo with us. Your teachings made the event even more special!🌸

Another incredible highlight—around 70% of the kendoka at this event were female! In a sport that is traditionally male-dominated, it’s amazing to see so many strong, dedicated women taking the lead and showing the power of kendo.
