In just two weeks, Aarhus University will be celebrating Postdoc Appreciation Week (PAW). During this week, we dedicate ourselves to recognizing the valuable contributions of our postdoctoral research-ers and strengthening connections across AU. Organized by the Junior Researcher Association in col-laboration with several faculties and departments PAW is open to all postdoctoral researchers at AU, as well as colleagues and collaborators who might want to join out of interest. Whether you are looking to gain new skills, meet peers from across disciplines, or simply enjoy good conversation over food and drinks, we look forward to seeing you at PAW 2026 later this month!

FEELING LOST IN THE DANISH UNEMPLOYMENT SYSTEM?

The Danish unemployment system is complicated and as an international researcher, it can be hard to navigate inside it and become aware of what your rights are as an employee in Denmark. If you are an international who is not yet a member of an unemployment fund (Danish: A-kasse) and unsure if you should join one, this webinar is for you! Together with representatives from two different Danish unemployment funds, our speaker will cover topics such as:

What an A-kasse/unemployment fund is and how they work
Why they are important
What they can do for you
Pros and cons of joining/not joining one
Any questions you might have

The webinar is aimed at all international PhD students and Junior Researchers at Aarhus University.

This final session of Postdoc Day, “Embracing Diversity in Research Proposals” will look at how to include, work with and accommodate to the growing demand for detailed diversity statements in re-search proposals.

Isabella Marie Leong, Department of Agroecology, TECH, will share her knowledge, experiences of and strategies for integrating diversity into research applications. If you would like to acquire tools and methods for incorporating diversity in your research proposals in a natural and mean-ingful way, this event is designed for you! On September 22nd, Postdoc Day, we’ll transition from the morning talks about career planning and opportunities to this afternoon talk about how to balance work, life and mental health as a postdoc. This session is organized by Nat/Tech but open to all JRs.

Our key speaker of the seminar, Sanne Schou, is an authorized psychologist, and she’ll lead us through an hour of key insights on how to maintain your own well-being, how to make your work feel meaningful, how to stay motivated and reduce stress, all to keep up a good and healthy work-life balance for yourself. Like all events part of Postdoc Appreciation Week (PAW), this seminar is free to attend for all postdocs at AU. Please note that this event is the sec-ond session of Postdoc Day and, as such, requires separate registration from the other two sessions of the day. To register, follow link below. September 22nd is Tech/Nat Postdoc Day, part of Postdoc Appreciation Week!

This means three different sessions during the day aimed specifically at postdocs on AU, all of which will provide our post-docs with all kinds of insight, from career paths to mental health.

This first session of the day, “Career Coaching for Postdocs” is for postdocs from the faculties of Nat and Tech. The event will, among oth-ers, include speakers from AU Career PhD and JR, from Department of Mechanical and Production Engineering, and from KITCHEN, the university’s innovation hub. During the session, we will present and discuss important points to have in mind when building your further career as a postdoctoral re-searcher from Nat/Tech: The transition from your PhD, choosing between academia and industry, how to build a career strategy early on, and the role of entrepreneurship in this process are only some of the topics to be covered in this session, and of course, you’ll be able to ask the presenters any questions you might have.

We’ll conclude this first part of the day with lunch for all participants before continuing Postdoc Day with two more sessions during the afternoon. The event is free, however, registration is required; follow link below.

That’s why our third event during our “Market Yourself Week” will be teaching you how to prepare for a job interview, what to expect and how to turn what might feel like a stressful exploitation into a balanced conversation between equal parts. Postdoc Appreciation Week: How to Become a Good Researcher

The very first event of Postdoc Appreciation Week (PAW) at AU, this panel discussion will include presentations from three excellent senior researchers from Department of Psychology and Center for Alcohol and Drug Research, followed by Q&A and discussion. All three presenters will talk about their own insights and dos and don’ts, all aiming to give you an idea of what it takes to become a good re-searcher in any field. Speaking from their own experiences, our presenters will cover topics such as facil-itators, obstacles, support, requirements and key insights to shaping your research career in your own image and creating the best possible foundation for a career as a researcher regardless of research area. After the discussion, we’ll provide lunch for all participants, where discussions can continue. We look forward to seeing you and to kicking off PAW on September 21st!
