Come on - join us for a study-semester in physical education ! swimming e.g. You can choose to study one or two semesters. Diploma will be presented.
We invite you to join an all-round world of physical education / sport with a great diversity of activities, didactic themes and lessons in an including atmosphere. The purpose of the subject is first and foremost to support your studies in becoming a highly educated professional PE-teacher able to promote enjoyment and skills within sport for children and other people in general. Class make-up:
A combination of students from different countries. First semester starts primo September 2014 untill primo December. Module and lessons:
8 weeks study + 3 weeks of school-practice:
The 8 studyweeks consists of 9 PE lessons a week + additional homework, group preparations and teoretical as practical tasks. Plus 3 weeks of school-practice with experienced teachers as mentors. Beside the PE study at the VIA University College you can join the “International class” with subjects like: Didactics, psychology, outdoor learning e.g. Learning outcomes:
You will learn a lot about how you can work with various aspects of PE focusing on school children as well as on yourself. For instance how to change between levels of difficulty and intensity, and the necessity of basic skills combined with professional imagination. You will learn about safety and the importance of including the children’s right to participate in decision making, combining their ideas with your own and the official regulations. About 60 per cent of the time we are physically active. The remaining time we work rather theoretically orientated, focusing on knowledge about body and training, various approaches within PE, values and ethics of sport, children and health, children’s development and needs, culture and society, the role of the teacher and discussions on what constitutes good teaching based on research from the pedagogical and psychological fields. Theoretical matters and discussions take place either in connection with practical performance or as separate studies. Examples of content, in headlines:
• Various ballgames and TGFU (Teaching games for understanding)
• Gymnastics – bodyskills – jumps - parcour
• Dance and rhythmic movements
• Track and field athletics.
• Outdoor-activities. Orienteering-running, street-life.
• Circus, juggling, acrobatics.
• Playing games and various body-kinetics activities.
• Swimming
• Sports or topics required from your home institutions

The PE/sport examination consists of a physical-practice, a written assignment and oral examination.
