"En kæmpe tak til AAU Arctic for at støtte min rejse til Grønland i forbindelse med min empiriindsamling til mit speciale på kandidatuddannelsen i Socialt Arbejde. Det har været en meget lærerig tur, både fagligt og personligt. Jeg har mødt en masse dygtige og søde mennesker, som tog rigtig godt imod mig og gjorde mig klogere på de grønlandske forhold og det sociale arbejde i Nuuk. Opholdet har også mindet mig om, hvor vigtigt det er, at vi bliver ved med at styrke forskningen i Arktis og deler viden på tværs af lande og fagligheder. Og se lige den fantastiske udsigt jeg havde fra biblioteket på Ilisimatusarfik – og fra min gåtur ind til centrum for at lave interviews. Det var noget helt særligt!"

AAU Arctic har igen 2026 udlyst 2 rejsestipendier til at støtte studerende/ansatte i at danne partnerskaber i Arktis. Senest har vi kunne støtte specialestuderende Sine Schou Christensen, der har sendt os hilsnen ovenfor:-)

Apply for early career researcher travel grants to the UArctic Congress 2026 and the Ocean Connectivity Conference!

Early‑career researchers (within 5 years of the PhD award; postdocs are also eligible) with accepted abstracts are eligible to apply in the two calls that are now open:

•Nordic grants: Open to early career researchers from UArctic member institutions in the Nordic countries.
•Canadian grants: Open to early career researchers from Canadian UArctic member institutions (Canadian citizens only).

The grants are funded by The Nordic Council of Ministers and Global Affairs Canada.

The 2026 will take place in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands from May 26 to 29, 2026, hosted by the University of the Faroe Islands / Fróðskaparsetur Føroya in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Culture, and the Faroe Marine Research Institute.

AAU Arctic stipends for Greenland translation👇

AAU Arctic wants to strengthen research and cooperation with actors in Greenland and, on this basis, a total of DKK 10,000 is being announced for translation activities in 2026.
The funds can be applied for by researchers employed at Aalborg University and students enrolled at Aalborg University regardless of faculty. The funds must go to cover expenses for written or oral translation to/from West or East Greenlandic. Up to DKK 3.000 per project/initiative can be applied for.
For students, the funds can be applied to cover for example interpretation and/or translation during project preparation work; research activities and/or communication activities for public outreach.
It is possible to use AAU’s agreement with Semantix for written translation into West-Greenlandic.
The application must be a maximum of 1 A4 page including a brief description of the activity and budget.
Applications are received continuously and can be sent to AAU Arctic ([email protected]) until 1 November 2026. Grants of support will be given on a 'first come, first served basis' if the application can be approved.
As far as possible, the amount is paid as a lump sum prior to the activity, but documentation for the held activity (copy of invitation and list of participants) and receipt for transfer/payment of interpreter must be submitted afterwards and no later than 10 December 2025.

AAU Arctic stipends for travels stipends for partnerships👇

Announcement of funding for research stays in the Arctic

AAU Arctic continues its strategy to strengthen AAU research and collaboration with communities in the Arctic. On that basis 2 x 10,000 DKR stipends are now available to support AAU research, collaboration and dissemination activities with communities, stakeholders, organisations and/or institutions within Arctic regions in 2026.

The funds can be applied for by researchers employed at Aalborg University and students enrolled at Aalborg University regardless of faculty. The funds must cover expenses for travel and/or stay to and in the Arctic.

The application must be a maximum of 1 A4 page including a short budget. The application must demonstrate research relevance and originality and, importantly, contain a detailed local collaboration or dissemination activity (internship, lecture at school, meeting with relevant local stakeholders, blog post(s) on relevant social media(s), etc.).

The application must be sent to AAU Arctic ([email protected]) no later than 1st of April 2026 at 12.00. Decision of support will be announced by April 15th at the latest. The funds must be used and the activity completed before the end of 2026.

As far as possible, the amount is paid as a lump sum before the research stay, but a report must be submitted afterwards and no later than 10 December 2026 (max. 1 page) that briefly summarizes research results and documents the communication or collaboration activity and expenses incurred. If three qualified applications are not received, AAU Arctic reserves the right to distribute the grants to fewer applicants.

The 2026 call for applications is now open! Based on a grant from the Danish Agency for Higher Education and Science (DAHES), UArctic and DAHES offer funding for network and education projects and encourage engagement between member institutions within the Kingdom, as well as internationally, for UArctic activities.

🌐Who can apply? The main applicant must come from a UArctic member university in Greenland, Denmark or the Faroe Islands

💰Funding: Up to 500,000 DKK per project
Total call: 3 million DKK

The grant is managed and administered by Ilisimatusarfik / University of Greenland, on behalf of UArctic in accordance with the recommendations from the Ministry of Higher Education and Science in Denmark.

Welcome our new team member on board🥳! AAU Arctic is pleased to welcome Trine Jakobsen, who will join us as an intern starting on Monday. Trine holds a degree in from Aalborg University and will be assisting with tasks connected to mapping our Arctic initiatives and impacts in preparation for our upcoming annual meeting. We are excited to have her support during this busy and important period.
We look forward to working with Trine and supporting her professional development throughout her internship. Please join us in welcoming her to the AAU Arctic team!
