Our last leg of our journey was concluded by meeting the coordinators of the VW Group Academy here in Wolfsburg. These men are also responsible for helping set up the Chattanooga Academy and revolutionize how we get students career ready. As we walk away, thinking about everything we have seen and learned along this trip- one this is for certain, the way we teach STEM next year is going to be AMAZING!

Today, as an added bonus to traveling to various VW plants around Europe, we stumbled upon the COOLEST interactive science museum right across from the VW Autostadt! As we walked through the many different hands-on stations, our “inner child” began to emerge. Young and old alike were learning and engrossed in all things science! We are so excited by this additional opportunity to walk away with SO MANY IDEAS to enrich our students and peers!

Our visit at the Audi Plant in Ingolstadt, Germany was eye-opening. They have a strong stand on collaboration, leadership growth, and career readiness. Through their Audi Akademie (Dual Education Apprenticeships) and on-site technical training, Audi’s understanding of STEM was exactly what we needed as FFTFellows to walk away with new perspectives of how it should be taught at an earlier age.

We have just had another incredible opportunity touring the training facilities at the Audi plant in Brussels, Belgium. With each visit, we leave with more emphasis on how crucial it is for STEM teaching to take place. As we reflect, we are brainstorming many ways that we can begin engaging our kids within the new school year!

Today, we were welcomed at a local Pre-K thru 12 school in Barcelona which focuses heavily on STEM and project based learning. Their pride and willingness to share everything they do and stand for was beyond inspiring. As we walked around, the children were engaged and excited about what they were learning. They were all very eager to tell us about what they were studying. We are excited to return with new ideas that will be shared at DuPont! 🤩😍

Although we were not able to take pictures in the SEAT plant today, we have been able to venture into the city of Barcelona to experience all that the city has to offer including the arts and heritage! What a learning experience this has been so far! So, tomorrow, we will go to St. Peter’s School (a local school in Spain) to witness how they integrate STEM into their curriculum. Through the tour today and combined with the prospects of tomorrow’s visit, we will witness the vertical integration of STEM learning and application.

Just had the incredible opportunity to tour the SEAT manufacturing plant in Martorell, Spain. Through this tour, we witnessed numerous accounts of innovative thinking that we can adapt into our own practices!
