Want to become a member of the DRC?

The Doctoral Researchers Council (DRC), is currently looking for three new members to join the team. Our main tasks are representing the interests of the PhD students in the meetings of the GSLS, organizing interactive events for PhD students and mediating between the Supervisors/ GSLS and the Doctoral Researchers. If you are interested to join our team, please send us your recent photograph and a short motivation on explaining why you would like to join the DRC and what you can offer to the other PhD students as a member of the DRC. Since we would like to have members who can serve for more than a year, please also mention your current PhD status. The application period will be until the 27th of April 2018.

We will open the election directly afterwards.

DRC-organized Barbecue- from PhD students for PhD students

Due to the weather forecast we unfortunately have to cancel our barbecue tonight :(

The DRC is currently looking for new members to fill three vacant positions. Our main tasks are representing the interests of the PhD students in the meetings of the GSLS, organizing events for PhD students and mediating between PI/ GSLS and the Doctoral researcher. If you are interested to join our team, please send a picture and motivation letter explaining briefly why you would like to join the DRC and what you can offer to the DRC to [email protected]. Since we would like to have members who can serve for more than a year, please also mention your current PhD status. The application period is open until April 8th, 2017 (12 pm).

Yesterday in the PKS (Promotionskommissionssitzung), criteria for submission of cumulative theses were discussed again. Furthermore, the current opinion is that generally, non-cumulative theses may be handed in in chapter form, as long as there is an overall introduction and discussion and - most importantly - the major overall contribution can be attributed to the thesis defendant. Nevertheless, all cases should be double-checked with the GSLS.

The roofing ceremony of the new GSLS building on the Campus Nord already took place! Since the ground-breaking ceremony in June 2016 a lot of work was done on the building with three floors and around 1200 square meters’ usable area. It’s supposed to be a place where PhD students can meet, write their thesis, visit courses, seminars and congresses!

we would like to remind you of the annual meeting with your thesis committee!

A new academic year has begun and the calendar year is about to come to an end. If you have not planned your annual meeting yet, why don’t you start it now? You don’t need results that can constitute one original scientific publication before initiating the meeting.

The committee is a group of experts who are well-versed in our fields of research, and regular meetings with the committee are very beneficial to students. This was also evident in the recent PhD student survey. Furthermore, the thesis committee is an integral part and requirement of your postgraduate education of the Graduate School of Life Sciences (GSLS). Their scientific inputs in your doctoral research is likely to enhance timely and successful completion of your thesis.

We would like to take this opportunity to remind you that the responsibility in planning and executing of the meetings with the thesis committee is on the part of the PhD students.
