Okay, ich weiss, viele Muttis haben gerade ziemlich die Schnauze voll mit Homeoffice und Homeschooling und Homecooking und Homeherumsitting mit der Brut. Aber ehrlich: immer noch besser als die arme Mutti hier: nach der Geburt kotzt sie sich ihre halben Gedärme ins Gesicht, ihre Spinnenbälger springen drauf und mampfen das; anschließend beißen die kleinen undankbaren Racker sich im Hinterteil fest und geben ihr den Rest. 😬

Eresus walckeneari Männchen. Findet sich im Mittelmeerraum, die Männchen sehen aus wie ein Marienkäfer :-)

Eresus walckeneari male. This is what their face looks like before it turns jet black. I thought their was something wrong with it at first but later learned that it was because it had very recently molted.

I just want to point out the absolute injustice of the fact some people call this spider the "Brown Huntsman".

The BROWN Huntsman. Quite a large number of Huntsmen are brown. If I took a survey of Huntsmen and the question was "are you at least a bit brown", I would not be surprised when many of them answered "why yes, I just checked and I am."

Calling it the Brown Huntsman is like calling it the Unremarkable Everyday Huntsman. The Boring Wall-clambering Bin-dwelling Huntsman. Just one of the common conglomerate of species spread through the wetter areas of the north half of Australia, busying themselves in their mission of frolicking around and being just average.

This is of course a fine common name. I myself have a full head of brown hair when I'm not pouring various dyes on it. It's good at blending in and if I lived in a tree or on the ground near the tree or under a rock or in the leaf litter or just anywhere, I'd be like thank you hair, you are keeping me camouflaged and protected against hungry predators and door-knockers.

It's just that, you know, I look at this picture and I think, hmm, there's something standing out here. What would I call this huntsman?

Is there anything particularly, uh, grabbing about it?

Are there any potential interactions with light in the layers of the exoskeleton resulting in any kind of, er, notable results?

If I had to pick one feature out from this huntsman and go, yeah, this is what's special about this huntsman, would I say "brown"?

I dunno guys. Having real trouble with this one. What do you think?
