Our Doctoral Candidate, Ana Alice de Oliveira Tavares, attended the FOREST EUROPE Ministerial Conference in Stockholm, representing the International Forestry Students’ Association (IFSA) in a session on the future of Green Forest Jobs in Europe.

The presentation highlighted key challenges facing the forest sector, including workforce shortages, skills mismatches, and the need to attract more young people and women to forestry careers. It also explored emerging opportunities linked to digitalization, ecosystem services, and the bioeconomy.

The message was clear: young people are not only the future workforce of the forest sector but also important contributors to shaping sustainable forest policy and governance today.

We are proud to have Alice carry that voice to Stockholm. 👏

About 3 weeks ago, 7 members of our institute attended the FLARE (Forests & Livelihoods: Assessment, Research and Engagement) Annual Meeting 2025 in Lima, Perú, where each presented their latest research. The conference was a dynamic forum for knowledge exchange and collaboration among scientists and practitioners.
Our team contributed the following presentations:
- Quoc Dung Phan and Kendisha S. Hintz in the session "Bioeconomy and Cooperatives"
- Carsten Schusser and Jude Kimengsi in the session "Community Forest Institutions"
- Sarah Burns and Izumi Mori-Zerpa in the session "Forest Governance and Policy"
- Preeyaphat Chaiklang in the session "Forest Governance and Institutions"

As COP30 takes place now in Belém, Brazil, addressing critical climate and biodiversity challenges, events like FLARE underscore the vital role of integrating science, policy and practice in shaping sustainable futures.
Our team is proud to contribute to these ongoing conversations and looks forward to advancing solutions that support both people and the planet.

We sincerely thank the FLARE organizers (Daniel Miller, Brian Wanbaugh, Katia Nakamura) for their commendable efforts.
