Less than a year after the project "REDACT: Researching Europe, Conspiracy Theories, and Digitilisation" ended, the final publication is out. The book Conspiracy Theories in the European Digital Sphere is now available for download for free (🔗 link in bio). The printed version will be available in a few weeks.

Michael Butter, who led the subproject on the German-speaking countries, is very happy with the book. "I think it makes a significant contribution to our understanding of digital conspiracism and the impact of history and region," he said. "And it was a great pleasure to collaborate with dear colleagues and friends."

Butter and PhD student Mara Precoma have written a chapter on German conspiracy theories about an imminent ban of cash for the volume and contributed to several others.👏

🇺🇸 Was ist los in den USA?
Das fragen sich viele im Moment - aber in der Geschichte der USA gab es solche Momente natürlich schon öfter. Wir, die Amerikanistik in Kooperation mit der Geschichtswissenschaft und dem d.a.i. , möchten anlässlich der 250 Jahre Unabhängigkeitserklärung Gelegenheit bieten, einerseits jenseits des Tagesgeschehens auch historisch auf die USA zu blicken. Andererseits wollen wir uns die Freiheit nehmen, auf aktuelle Entwicklungen einzugehen und Hintergründe aufzuarbeiten.
Herausgekommen ist eine spannende Mischung an Vorträgen, Diskussionen und Interviews - u.a. zum gegenwärtigem Aktivismus in der Parnerstadt von Tübingen, Ann Arbor (Ute Bechdolf und Horst Tonn), zur Situation amerikanischer Universitäten (mit Beiträgen amerikanischer Gäste) und schliesslich zur Bedeutung der politischen Entwicklungen für uns in Deutschlang und Europa in einer abschliessenden Podiumsdiskussion.

The project "REDACT: Researching Europe, Digitalisation and Conspiracy Theories" studied the impact of the internet and social media on conspiracy theories in different European regions. The work package on the German-speaking countries was conducted by Michael Butter and PhD student Mara Precoma. They collaborated with colleagues from all over Europe. As part of the project's outreach strategy, Julius Haferkorn, an IAS alumnus and former student assistant, produced a short video that presents the project's methodology and major findings. The interviews were shot in beautiful Dubrovnik during a workshop last September.

🗣 Talk by Drew Hayden Taylor: ”The Power of Humor in Indigenous Storytelling”

Meet the Indigenous author Drew Hayden Taylor (Ojibway/Anishinaabe), one of Canada's leading Indigenous playwrights, authors of novels and short fiction, columnists, filmmakers, and humorists, with 35 published books. As a contemporary Indigenous storyteller, he has expanded many boundaries across media and genres, including graphic and science fiction. His humorous take on the absurdities of life from his Indigenous perspective draws on his traveling the world for the past two decades and has won him numerous awards. This evening, he will talk about the power of humor in Indigenous storytelling and the challenges contemporary Indigenous writers face.
