Tübingen – A Journey of Learning and Beauty

𓊯Tübingen – A Journey of Learning and Beauty

Tübingen is a historic university town rich in academic tradition and cultural depth. Though not large in size, the city radiates youthful energy and is filled with thought, art, and a vibrant way of life.
Our two accompanying teachers, Arne and Sara, are both alumni of the University of Tübingen, and this charming city remains one of their favorite places in all of Germany. Tübingen has preserved its medieval old town, complete with cobblestone streets, colorful half-timbered houses (Fachwerkhäuser), and the scenic Neckar riverbanks. In summer, blooming flowers and carefully tended gardens add a fairytale-like charm that is both calming and uplifting.

Led by our teachers, we visited the St. George’s Church, located in the heart of the old town. From the top of the church tower, we enjoyed a breathtaking panoramic view of Tübingen’s red rooftops and winding alleyways—a truly picturesque scene.
One of the most anticipated highlights was a ride on the city’s iconic Stocherkahn — traditional wooden boats unique to Tübingen. Our group split into two teams and leisurely drifted down the Neckar River, skillfully guided by the local boatmen. Lush summer greenery and historic buildings lined the riverbanks. The weather was perfect, wild ducks swam alongside us, and the students sang and laughed together. It was a joyful, relaxing, and truly unforgettable experience.

📽️ Bonus Highlight: A Surprise Appearance on German News!

The day after our visit to Tübingen, Germany's women’s national football team happened to be playing a match — and in the afternoon, our students were unexpectedly approached by a news crew from SWR Aktuell, a regional German news station.
Without hesitation, the students confidently shared their thoughts and perspectives on German football — all in fluent English! Their articulate and poised responses impressed the journalists, showcasing not only their language skills but also their global outlook and enthusiasm. A proud moment for our Taiwan students on the international stage!

這次我們有幸參觀了球隊 VfB Stuttgart(Verein für Bewegungsspiele Stuttgart,司徒加特體育俱樂部)的主場——MHPArena。

🏟️From the stadium, we hear the heartbeat of Germany❤️‍🔥

In Germany, football is not just a sport — it is a symbol of national culture, social cohesion, and collective identity. With over 20 million registered members and more than 25,000 football clubs, Germany boasts the largest football organization system in the world.

During our trip, we had the privilege of visiting the home stadium of VfB Stuttgart (Verein für Bewegungsspiele Stuttgart), one of Germany’s most historic and beloved football clubs. Their stadium, MHPArena, is an impressive venue with a capacity of around 60,000 spectators. It has hosted major international matches, including the 2006 FIFA World Cup and the 2024 UEFA European Championship.

VfB Stuttgart has a rich legacy and has won multiple national championships. A fun highlight of our visit was that one of our host families, “Home Ma,” turned out to be a devoted VfB fan and even gifted the team’s jersey to their Taiwanese exchange student — a heartwarming and adorable gesture.

Thanks to the thoughtful arrangements by our KCG teachers, we had a guided tour of the stadium and were able to explore several key areas, including the players' locker rooms, VIP suites, and spectator stands — a rare and exciting opportunity. The atmosphere was electrifying, especially for our football-loving students from Taiwan. For many, it was a dream come true, and the excitement was written all over their faces.

To the German people, football goes far beyond winning or losing — it represents teamwork, discipline, respect, and inclusion. It serves as a bridge across generations, communities, and cultures. Football is deeply rooted in every corner of German society and stands as a powerful force that brings people together and creates a shared emotional connection.

🏰 Neuschwanstein Castle (Schloss Neuschwanstein) was officially inscribed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage Site on July 15, 2025, during our exchange visit to Germany. It is one of the most famous and fairy tale-like castles in Germany — the iconic Disney castle was even inspired by it.

However, on the night before our planned visit, heavy rain hit the area, causing landslides around the castle. For safety reasons, we were unable to enter. Still, viewing Neuschwanstein from a distance, surrounded by majestic mountains, was truly breathtaking and unforgettable.

Neuschwanstein Castle was built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria as a personal retreat from the world. We also visited Hohenschwangau Castle, where Ludwig II spent his childhood. It was there that he was inspired by the surrounding forests and medieval legends — inspirations that later shaped Neuschwanstein into his “idealized castle” based on childhood fantasies, romantic chivalry, and operatic dreams.

That day, we also visited Ottobeuren Abbey, a stunning example of High Baroque and Rococo architecture. With its grand exterior and lavishly decorated interior, it was hard to believe that this monastery has a history of 1,261 years, bearing witness to over twelve centuries of religious, artistic, and cultural transformation. It is widely regarded as one of the most magnificent religious buildings in southern Germany — truly an eye-opening experience.

A Journey Through Historic Heidelberg

As part of this exchange program, we visited the city of Heidelberg in southwestern Germany — a place steeped in history and cultural charm. Renowned not only for its picturesque scenery, Heidelberg is also a significant symbol of German culture and academia.

Our first stop was Heidelberg University, founded in 1386. As one of the oldest universities in Germany, it has long been recognized as a world-class academic institution, drawing outstanding students and scholars from around the globe.

We then visited the famous Old Bridge and the majestic Heidelberg Castle. With the lively and informative guidance of the KCG students, we gained deeper insight into the city’s rich historical background and had the chance to experience the beautiful fusion of Gothic and Renaissance architectural styles up close.

Climbing to the top of the castle, we were treated to a breathtaking panoramic view of the old town and the winding Neckar River — a truly awe-inspiring sight that brought this intellectually and visually enriching journey to a memorable close.

That day, we also visited the Church of the Holy Spirit (Heiliggeistkirche), located beside the lively Marktplatz in Heidelberg. This church, which took 150 years to complete, is one of the city’s most iconic landmarks and has quietly borne witness to centuries of religious devotion and historical change.

The interior exudes a solemn and peaceful atmosphere—simple, yet deeply sacred. One particularly striking feature is a cross with a rainbow-like effect that, under the play of light, creates a powerful visual impact. It adds a touch of modern and profound artistry to the historic space.

To foster meaningful exchange between Taiwan and Germany, a one-day school immersion program was specially arranged with our sister school, KCG. On this special occasion, students wore commemorative T-shirts designed by Principal Maier, featuring a creative fusion of two iconic landmarks—Taipei 101 and the Stuttgart TV Tower—symbolizing the enduring spirit of Taiwan-Germany friendship under the theme “We Are Together.”

During the school day, Taiwanese students joined their German buddies to experience everyday campus life. Activities included group discussions, classroom participation, and even a hands-on introduction to German handball. Each Taiwanese student came well-prepared with a self-introduction, along with presentations on Taiwan’s rich cultural diversity and Chinese language learning. They also shared a delightful array of Taiwanese snacks, offering a taste of home. While Taiwan and Germany differ greatly in culture, both are uniquely captivating. Through this vibrant exchange, students deepened mutual understanding, embraced cultural diversity, and formed lasting friendships—an unforgettable way to broaden their international horizons.

Later that day, KCG teachers guided the group on a visit to the Stuttgart TV Tower—the world’s first television tower constructed with reinforced concrete, a groundbreaking milestone in tower architecture. From the observation deck, students were treated to sweeping views of Stuttgart’s urban landscape and surrounding natural beauty—a breathtaking and inspiring end to a day of rich cross-cultural learning.

We sincerely thank the principal and vice principal of KCG, as well as teachers Arne and Sara, for their strong support and commitment to international educational exchange. It was through their dedication and thoughtful efforts that this rich and meaningful journey of cross-cultural learning was made possible

Renowned automobile brands Porsche and Mercedes-Benz both originated in Stuttgart, Germany. As part of this exchange program, a special visit to the Porsche Museum was arranged. Through a chronological exhibition layout, we were able to clearly observe the evolution of Porsche models from the past to the present. Each era showcased iconic designs, unique functions, and meaningful technological breakthroughs, reflecting the brand’s relentless pursuit of excellence.

One of the most valuable aspects of this visit was the guided tour led by a professional docent, who introduced us to Porsche’s most legendary models—the 911 and the Taycan. We not only admired the aesthetics and innovation of these vehicles up close but also had the rare opportunity to enter the production facility and witness the entire manufacturing process. The combination of highly automated industrial systems and meticulous craftsmanship was truly impressive. Every step of assembling a car from scratch left a lasting impression and filled us with excitement.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Professor KCG for thoughtfully organizing the tour and factory visit. It provided all participating students and faculty with a rare and enriching opportunity to gain in-depth insight into the complete production process of world-renowned automobiles.

Germany is a federal republic composed of 16 federal states (Bundesländer). According to the German Basic Law, each state enjoys a high degree of autonomy, including independent authority in administration, judiciary, education, and cultural policy-making and implementation.
Our sister school, KCG, is located in Baden-Württemberg, one of the wealthiest, most innovative, and academically advanced states in Germany. Its land area is comparable to that of Taiwan, making it a valuable reference point for geographic and administrative comparisons.
During this trip, we were honored to lead our students and faculty on a visit to the State Parliament of Baden-Württemberg, where we were warmly received and guided by government officials. The visit provided us with a deeper understanding of the state's political structure and legislative system, enriching our exchange with academic and international perspectives.
The Baden-Württemberg State Parliament is currently composed of five major political parties.
Notably, while most German state parliaments adopt a two-vote electoral system (one vote for a candidate, one for a party), Baden-Württemberg is the only federal state that uses a single-vote system, a unique electoral design reflecting its regional political tradition.
In addition to the in-depth guided tour, this visit also highlighted Baden-Württemberg’s strong emphasis on transparency and civic engagement. The state government specially organized a student mock parliament session, offering our students the rare opportunity to actively experience how parliamentary procedures work in practice. It was a meaningful and educational experience that deepened their understanding of democratic processes in Germany.
Moreover, we were honored to engage in a live Q&A session and dialogue with a member of the Free Democratic Party (FDP). This direct interaction allowed our students to gain deeper insights into political issues while fostering cross-cultural exchange and intellectual dialogue—further broadening their global perspectives and civic awareness.

We were honored to take part in an exchange program in Germany, during which we had the special opportunity to visit the Stuttgart City Hall. We were warmly welcomed by local government officials, who provided us with an in-depth introduction to the unique characteristics and cultural background of the city.

Stuttgart is a major city in the state of Baden-Württemberg, Germany. Its municipal government is responsible for managing city-level affairs, including education, urban planning, transportation, and other public services.
Known as a hub of Germany’s renowned automobile industry, Stuttgart is the birthplace and headquarters of both Mercedes-Benz and Porsche. Despite its strong industrial development, the city retains over 60% of its area as green space, earning it the title of a “Green City” — a place where technology and nature coexist in harmony.

The name "Stuttgart" dates back to the Middle Ages and originates from the Old High German word Stuotgarten, meaning "stud farm" or "horse garden." This historical origin is symbolized in the city’s coat of arms, which features a prancing horse — a motif that also inspired the design of the Porsche logo, reflecting the deep cultural connection between the city and its automotive legacy.

In addition, the City Hall organized a guided city tour for us, taking us to several iconic landmarks such as Königstraße (King Street) near the New Palace, the Markthalle Stuttgart (Market Hall), and the Staatstheater Stuttgart (State Opera House). Through these on-site visits and insightful explanations, the students gained a deeper understanding and appreciation of Stuttgart’s rich history and vibrant urban life.

/A Journey Through the History of Ulm/

Bringing our students to Ulm, we began our exploration at the city’s most iconic landmark — the Ulm Minster (Ulmer Münster). This magnificent Gothic cathedral took over 500 years to complete and, since its completion in 1890, has held the title of the tallest church spire in the world, standing proudly at 161.53 meters.

Climbing the 768-step spiral staircase to the top is no small feat, but the reward is worth every step. From the summit, you’re greeted with a breathtaking panoramic view of the entire city. On a clear day, you can even see the snow-capped Alps in the distance, and the serene curves of the nearby Danube River weaving through the landscape.

The interior of the church is just as awe-inspiring — featuring stunning stained glass windows, towering stone columns, and a beautifully preserved medieval wooden pulpit. It also houses one of Germany’s largest historical pipe organs. More than just a place of worship, the Ulm Minster is a living testament to the city’s enduring spirit, craftsmanship, and cultural legacy.

Beyond the cathedral, Ulm offers a wealth of historical charm. This is the birthplace of Albert Einstein, and we had the chance to visit his grandmother’s former home. The city also boasts fascinating landmarks like the Leaning House, officially recognized by the Guinness World Records, the Butchers’ House, and the Fishermen’s Guild House — all preserved in authentic medieval architectural style. Walking through Ulm truly feels like stepping into a living history lesson.

This trip was far more than just sightseeing — it was an inspiring blend of education and wonder. From towering spires to narrow cobblestone alleys, every moment deepened our appreciation for the beauty of history and the stories it still tells.
It was truly breathtaking — an experience to remember.
