What a great week of training at the range.

A full week of long days, from morning until evening, running drills, putting in the repetitions, and staying focused throughout an intensive training schedule. It was a lot of work, a lot of training, and definitely demanding but also an incredibly valuable and rewarding experience.

Great people, great facility, and plenty of opportunities to train, improve, and keep pushing the standard higher.

A big thank you to Hard Task Photo for providing an excellent training facility and outstanding logistical support throughout the week. We truly appreciate everything you did to make the training run smoothly.

As always, it was a pleasure. Thank you, and see you next time!

I like starting training days cold.

No warm-up, no chance to find the rhythm first. Just see what is there when you step on the range….Actually, when I reflect on it, I often notice that whatever was missing in those first cold runs is exactly what I ought to train and fix during the rest of the day.
That first run gives me a pretty honest direction for the session.

Since so many people seem to disagree, here’s a reminder:

The purpose of a drill is not necessarily to replicate reality exactly, but to develop and reinforce the skills required to perform effectively under realistic demands.

I think understanding the purpose of what you train goes even more than knowing the why - at times.

Sometimes, life comes down to centimetres…..and the second you choose to act.

An operator enters a room, sees through the next doorway, and immediately identifies an opponent.

What now?

Stop, engage, reassess and decide whether the next move is offensive or defensive?

Or keep pushing through?

Online discussions often reduce these moments to absolutes:

“Never stop in a doorway.”
“Always keep moving.”

But decision-making isn’t about absolutes.

The real question isn’t simply where you solved the problem.

It’s why you chose to solve it that way, with the information you had at that moment.

Context changes decisions.
New information changes priorities.
And a good decision in one situation can be a bad one in another.

So instead of asking:

“Should he stop or push?”

Ask:

“What information would make you choose one over the other?”

That’s where the useful discussion starts. And also educated experience.
