Much to unpack here….

To me, breaching is a very sensitive task. Not just because of the breaching event itself, but because of everything happening around the door and, more importantly, what might be happening behind it before the breach even takes place.

Different approaches to breaching come with different considerations, but I think this video highlights some very basic misunderstandings that can become extremely problematic.

Positioning prior to the breach, coordination between individuals, unnecessary activity around the door, and sweeping the threshold with white light in a way that seems to serve no clear purpose, while in reality…it creates an extremely dangerous conditions to the breach.

These are not necessarily small details. to me…this…reflect how people understand the problem they are trying to solve.

Breaching is not an isolated technical action. It is part of a much larger problem, and what happens before the door opens matters just as much as the breach itself, regardless on how exactly you are breaching.

What else you noticed here? Curious of your take aways.

Not all demos are created equal i guess lol. Not happy with this one, but that why we train.

Having a blas this week!

White light under NODs?

Heres a short video from FOF session under NVG during one of my last tours.

…White light under NVGs is usually a compromise.

If I activate a r1fle-mounted light, I am giving information away. But there are rare moments where that trade becomes useful.

If I already know I am compromised, the person inside is oriented on the threshold, and I know he is looking in my direction, staying purely infrared is not automatically the better answer - unless i am not silhouetted.

Now the relationship between illumination matters.

How exposed is my position compared to his?
Can he see much of me before i see him?
How oriented is he toward the threshold?

When my white light becomes the dominant source of light in that space, attention gets pulled toward it. That gives me some benefit, and often more problems.

Normally, that is exactly the problem.

But if someone is already looking at me, it can also become a tool.

For a short moment, white light can help me control the visual problem, manipulate what the other person sees, speed up team orientation and put pressure on someone who is already oriented toward my position.

The principle is not: white light is better than IR.

The principle is: once concealment is already lost, illumination becomes something you can deliberately manipulate.

Few weeks are left untill our next class at .
Its not only a great place to train…but great people to train.

For me in shooting, visual barriers and movement are constraints that dictate when, where, and how I can apply marksmanship.

The question remains: when i have to deal with this constraints, is my position going to help me or work against me?

Using the walls…aka Deliberate…limpen…is not about cover. Its about Information. How fast you convert this Information into appropriate Action is what seperate mediacore performance to one that counts.

Doubles, distance, cadence and time.

Four things I like to play with when I want to expose problems in my marksmanship.

Doubles help me understand what happened between two rounds. Was it consistent? What changed between the first and second shot? I’ll often correlate what I see on the target with video, or simply with what I remember seeing and feeling during the shots.

Distance complicates the visual problem. It shows me where my shooting starts to deteriorate, and more importantly, whether that deterioration is still acceptable for the standard I’m trying to maintain.

Cadence is tied into that. As distance changes, can I maintain the same cadence? Should I? What happens to the relationship between those two rounds when I push the pace?

And then there’s time. The window of opportunity. Sometimes I put time on a specific part of the drill, sometimes on the whole thing.

None of these exist in isolation….Change one and the others start telling you something….That’s why I enjoy running this at 50 meters. It has a very honest way of exposing what’s actually there and what has gotten rusty.

I would probably not do it in real life unless it be HR….

To the video, We discussed it in the class - sure, this wasnt a rescue mission - this barricaded entry point and resistance was not requiring us to IE into that room. But - it does help us in training to look into who can be aggressive, and whos not. And i think that is an important trait. See, Aggression is one of those things that gets misunderstood.

It’s not about being angry or reckless. For me it’s more about consistency of intensity.

You hit an obstacle, something doesn’t work, the situation changes—you don’t stop. You adapt and keep pushing the problem until it’s solved.

That’s a quality I think matters a lot in selection, especially for people who are expected to perform in CQB.

Of course it needs intelligence behind it. Control. Knowing when to push and when not to.

Being aggressive is easy.

Being able to access it, control it and keep it directed toward the objective is something else.

Curious of your opinion.

“CQB targets are big. Just point and shoot.”

That is where the gap between logic and experience, application - true knowledge - is revealed in my opinion….The argument that we can sacrifice marksmanship because targets are bigger in CQB - is weak. It would be less weak if it would be the compressed time, but as a visual absolute ? Na. misses the point.Distance is only one part of difficulty. What matters is what the target actually looks like when the problem is in front of you. A hostage. Partial exposure behind a threshold or furniture, depth, Movement. Low light, PID…. A lot of information that has to be processed before the shot can happen.

Five meters can be easy. Five meters can be very hard.

The target doesn’t need to be small to demand precision….the situation does. I tihnk the shooting was too quick, but considering what preceeds the shot…. I think it was quite to be expected.
