SBW Berlin aims for a socially better world. Collaborating with scholarship recipients and partners, we design global projects aiding those in need.

Our vision is a world in which every person – through education and social engagement – can change and improve their own circumstances. By awarding scholarships to exceptional talents, we are not only supporting them but also enabling them to receive an education. So that they can achieve self-determined goal

In this way, we mentor and support our scholarship recipients and partner organizations in their home country in the development of social projects to realize their visions. A regularly international exchange and networking with each other expands our reach and allows us to work together to improve living conditions in financially disadvantaged areas through education. We believe that through education and social commitment you can improve living conditions of others as well as your own. We mentor our scholarship recipients in their pursuit of education to successfully complete their studies, to enter the professional world, and to implement their social projects. As part of our vision, we are developing an innovative school project in collaboration with a hospital for children suffering from lung diseases in Bulgaria. You’ve surely heard of our “Flats4Volunteers” project, right? In exchange for volunteer work, students in Berlin looking for housing receive free accommodation. Meet Sumit, one of our volunteers since December 2025. Together with Titas, one of our graduates from the SBW Berlin scholarship program, the grassroots organization Green Crusaders, and SBW Berlin, he’s working on planning and organizing a heritage walk in Ahmedabad – his hometown – which is anticipated to take place in September.

On the walk, participants will not only visit interesting buildings (e.g., pol houses, stepwells, markets, religious places etc.) but also learn about their history and why we need to preserve them today.

Are you interested in the SBW Berlin Scholarship for international students and would like to submit an application? Hold on! First, you must provide proof that you are already volunteering with a social or nonprofit organization in your hometown. How do you do that? Your organization must first submit a letter of recommendation explaining your current responsibilities and the nature of your collaboration with the organization during the funding period or your studies. Detailed information about the scholarship and the application and selection process can be found in the Guidelines and Criteria for the SBW Berlin Scholarship for International Students on the SBW Berlin website.

Between tarot readings, delicious fruit smoothies and a few competitive rounds of Ludo, we enjoyed a fun and relaxed afternoon at our SBW Berlin event for scholarship recipients and volunteers. There was plenty of laughter, good conversations and time to get to know each other better. 🔮🍓🎲☀️

Zwischen Tarot-Readings, leckeren Obstsmoothies und ein paar ehrgeizigen Runden „Mensch ärgere Dich nicht“ haben wir bei unserem SBW Berlin Event für Stipendiat:innen und Volunteers einen entspannten und lustigen Nachmittag verbracht. Dabei gab es viel zu lachen, schöne Gespräche und die Gelegenheit, sich besser kennenzulernen. 🔮🍓🎲☀️

🌈 Happy Pride Month and Christopher Street Day! 🌈
Christopher Street Day, also known as CSD, is the German name for Pride. It is named after Christopher Street in New York City, where the Stonewall uprising of 1969 became an important milestone in the LGBTQ+ rights movement.
Today, CSD stands for diversity, visibility, equality, and the right to live freely and authentically without fear.
At SBW Berlin, we believe that everyone deserves the same opportunities, respect, and support, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

Ein Nachmittag voller Lachen, Austausch und Gemeinschaft. 🌿✨
Bei unserem 2. SBW Berlin Event für Stipendiat*innen und Volunteers in diesem Semester trafen wir uns alle für Boccia und Jenga im Garten. Alle hatten Spaß und fanden, es war eine schöne Zeit zusammen.
