Apparently I can explain phonesthemes before I can consistently pronounce phonesthemes 😭

But if you watched my last two videos:
YES—there’s actually a name for those sound clusters that share associations!

And no, they’re not strict rules. Your brain is just making associations between sound and meaning in ways most of us never consciously notice 😎

If you enjoyed this little linguistic tasting, please share your favorite moment or next wondering below 👇🏽

Why do so many “gl-” words feel shiny? ✨

glare
glisten
glitter
glimmer
glow
gleam

Your brain is probably already sensing the pattern… even if you’ve never consciously noticed it before.

There’s actually a name for this phenomenon 👀

Why do so many English words beginning with “sn-” have something to do with the nose? 👃

sniff
snore
sneeze
snort
snout
snuffle

Coincidence… or something deeper happening in language?

Some things don’t leave right away.

A thought. A feeling. A word.

They linger.

And if you pay attention… there’s something there.

I’m starting to notice those moments again.

Let’s look at an example…
Since you already made up your mind, my opinion on the matter is moot ✅

It may seem like my posts are petering out, but I’m just trying to get through this semester‘s paper! 😉

With a full-time job, part-time school, and being a human… There’s just so much to do 🤪

But I’m still thinking of you all and I want to share a fun phrase today: peter out ✅

This is a phrasal verb and it is idiomatic 👍🏼 it means to diminish to nothing, to be reduced gradually until there is nothing left.

You can describe a relationship that becomes less and less connected over time until you have no contact with that person at all. The relationship petered out 😢

Or you can talk about a storm getting less and less extreme until it is completely gone. The storm petered out ⛈

Can you give me an example with ‘peter out’??? 👇🏽

If something works like a charm, then it is very effective… Perhaps even surprisingly so! 😯

Someone once told me that I was over cleaning my face 😶‍🌫️ They said I should only use cleanser in the evening and wash with clean water in the morning. This worked like a charm!!! 🤩 My face starting clearing up right away!

What strategies or methods have worked like a charm for you??? 👇🏽
