Human > machine. Empathy came before rule. It regulated the tribe long before dogmas or gods or profit did. To feel deeply inside a numbed civilisation is how the soul refuses to be turned mechanical. It’s the living intelligence within us remembering that compassion isn’t just an emotion, but very thing our existence depends on. Mammals evolved nervous systems attuned to one another’s emotions, for example a crying baby triggers milk flow in the mother’s body and hearing laughter releases oxytocin (making us feel connected & safe). Basically compassion is older than verbal communication. We were fluent in empathy long before we could put our needs into words. A species survives through emotional & physical cooperation, ecosystems thrive through reciprocity & balance, and societies collapse when these things erode. To me what this means is that sensitivity is not some poetic luxury... it’s a form of intelligence essential to our collective survival and evolution. It shapes how we relate, adapt and care (socially, spiritually and physically). To remain sentient = to keep feeling (sentient-sentimental) = to stay human. It is the only thing separating us from machines.
