Displaced people in Budapest, including refugees, asylum seekers, and those with temporary protection, are invited to join Open Learning Initiative (OLIve). Our academic, skills and artistic courses can expand your horizons, help in school or work, and contribute to successful university or college applications.

Courses include:
English for study and work at three different levels
Journalism
Urban activism and community organizing
Psychology: Power of Collective Action in Overcoming Crisis
Career Skills and Enterprise Development
Visual Art
English Communication

‼We need you‼ Can you volunteer some time?
This Saturday and Sunday is another big day for the OLIve renovation. We will turn the uneven bricks into smooth beautiful walls.

We will be there:
🕙 Saturday 3rd, from 10-5.
🕙 Sunday 4th, from 10-5.

Ideally everyone can arrive at 10 so the process can just be explained once. But we understand people have commitments!

OPEN CALL FOR ENGLISH VOLUNTEER TEACHER

The OLIve – Open Learning Initiative weekend program is dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive learning space free university level education for adults (15+) who had to leave their home from anywhere around the world, including asylum seekers and those with refugee status.

OLIve is looking for a volunteer teacher of English language.

Classes are in-person, on Saturdays, 11:15-12:45.
Location: Budapest, VIII, Lósy Imre utca 3.
Term dates: Nov 7 - Feb 13 (with a break on Dec 19, 26, Jan 2)

Responsibilities:
Teaching one group of students throughout the semester, 90 mins/week,
Designing an 11-week course that meets students’ needs
Participating in placement testing of incoming students,
Preparing for and delivering classes,
Participating in at least one teacher meeting.

We’re getting the space ready for the new semester and we’re looking for white paint to keep the work going.

If you know anyone who could donate paint, or a place that might be able to help, please get in touch with us!

As we are building our new space, our network of supporters is growing a lot, and we are so grateful and proud of our community!

However, there’s still a lot to do, so having regular subscribers is crucial for us to start the new semester as soon as possible. We included the option to be a regular monthly supporter to our donation page. This is the best way for you to support our work. It allows us to spend money on education that is not tied to a specific grant. If we have enough supporters, we can start the new semester in October.

We are already getting so many enquiries from our motivated students eager to continue learning. Some of them are a part of our renovation crew, working hard to make the new home ready for studying. It’s been so fun doing the heavy lifting together, but we can’t wait to see them in our classrooms!

Adult Education for Displaced People in Hungary

We’re getting closer!

We already have the entrance step in place, we’ve fixed the water pipes, and we’re now working on the walls and windows. Our wood workshop is coming soon too!

There’s just a little more to do before we can open our doors and start the new semester, but we still need your support.
