🏆 MBS IS THE #1 PRIVATE UNIVERSITY OF APPLIED SCIENCES 🏆
We are proud to announce that MBS has been named the #1 private university of applied sciences by recruiters and ranked 3rd among all universities of applied sciences in the field of business studies in the latest WirtschaftsWoche ranking!
This ranking is based on a survey, which asked HR professionals about their preferred universities and the qualities they value in candidates.
The survey found that HR professionals value qualities like personality, practical experience, fluent English, social engagement, communication, conflict resolution, solution-oriented thinking, and teamwork. These are the very skills we prioritize at MBS through innovative teaching methods, hands-on projects, and early industry partnerships.
MBS is proud to set the standard in business education, equipping students with the skills and experience needed to excel in their careers.
🎮INSIGHTS INTO THE FUTURE OF BRAND ENGAGEMENT IN E-SPORTS AND GAMING 🎮
MBS Prof. Dr. David Wagner and Master Sports Business and Communication alumni Kilian Kramer (Global Lead of Commercial Inventory & Innovation at ESL FACEIT Group) and Constantin Rittmann (Partner & Country Manager Germany at MYI Entertainment) have recently published an article in the magazine Markenartikel Magazin. Titled "Neue Wege gehen" ("New Paths Ahead"), it delves into the increasing relevance of E-Sports and Gaming for brands, presenting a strategic marketing agenda in nine key points.
In 2024, alongside major events like the Olympics and UEFA Euro, the inaugural Esports World Cup in Riyadh will feature a groundbreaking $60 million prize pool, showcasing E-Sports' rising prominence.
The article gives major insights into strategic entry points, goal setting, and building expertise for effective brand activation in this dynamic sector.
FIRST-HAND INSIGHTS INTO THE PRACTICE OF SUSTAINABLE INVESTING 🌍💼
As part of the Financial Management/ Sustainable Finance course, lecturer Dr. Sandra Reich and the MBA students were delighted to welcome the guest speaker, Philipp Halbow, CFA, Senior Manager Compliance & ESG Representative for Germany, Austria & CEEMED at Schroders.
Last Monday, Philipp introduced the students to the broad spectrum of sustainable objectives and gave a deep insight into aspects of ESG-investing. He explained the complexity of Schroders` own sustainability models and the active ownership approach.
A great opportunity for the students to ask their practical questions. Thank you very much, Philipp, for your presentation and the open exchange - the students now have a better understanding of which ESG components are particularly relevant from an investors or asset managers perspective. 🙌🎓
And here we are, the last class of of our talented cohort completed. Now it’s off to exams and a short summer break is in order. Congratulations to our MBA General students here at Munich Business School for completing their studies and we really look forward to the next semester with you.
Surely, this has been quite a journey for our future this semester and it went fast… very fast 😊 Now just a few exams to rock and then the second semester is just round the corner with more exciting activities, workshops, EMBA Consortium and your own for the thesis. We really look forward to that, but for now, all the best in your exams and we’ll see you shortly in September.
🚀 INSIDE LOOK: ETHICS IN THE DIGITAL WORLD 🔒🤖
How secure is your data on the internet? And how can we ensure that AI adheres to certain ethical rules? In Prof. Heiko Seif's course "Online Security & Digital Ethics," students delve into exactly these topics.
The approach of the course is innovatively designed: Prof. Seif utilizes Entrepreneurial Learning & Teaching as a modern method to impart new learning content. Students are encouraged to think for themselves, to come up with solutions and new insights on their own. This is achieved through expeditions as well as group work. 🌟
Recently, students analyzed the Google Code of Conduct. Through shared discussions on AI, Professor Seif invites his students into a glimpse of the future. This also gives rise to intriguing questions:
🤔 When will we have superhuman artificial intelligence?
🧠 Can autonomous intelligent systems develop their own will?
🌍 What role will humans play in conjunction with AI in the future?
At MBS, innovation is one of our core values. Stay tuned to find out more about innovative teaching methods at MBS as we will be sharing more inside looks soon! 🎓✨

🎓 5th MBS DOCTORAL CONFERENCE 🎓
Last week, the 5th MBS Doctoral Conference took place as a hybrid event, both on campus and online. Our current DBA candidates from various cohorts presented their research and discussed their progress, fostering a dynamic exchange of ideas and feedback.
We were honored to have two inspiring keynotes:
🔹 Dr. Alex Osterwalder, CEO of Strategyzer and inventor of the Business Model Canvas, who shared insights on transitioning "From Doctoral Dissertation to Author and Entrepreneur with an Impact."
🔹 Dr. Judith Widauer, MBS DBA alumna and Managing Director at tts Austria, on “You cannot not communication – implications for the DBA journey” who shared insights into her own DBA journey and offered practical advice to keep motivated while working on your thesis:
- Select a topic you are passionate about
- Create a structure for a chapter before starting to write
- Avoid longer breaks from writing
- Plan your work months in advance and set yourself writing deadlines
- Use a research diary for reflection, thoughts, and inspiration
- Share your work early with supervisors to seek feedback
- Keep in touch with your DBA peers to not feel alone on your journey
- Aim to schedule your viva voce soon after thesis submission
We also extend our gratitude to DBA Academic Director Prof. Dr. David Wagner and Research Coordinator Doris Bampi-Hautmann for organizing and hosting this insightful event. 🚀 FROM DOCTORAL DISSERTATION TO AUTHOR & ENTREPRENEUR 🚀
We had the honor of hosting Dr. , CEO of , inventor of the Business Model Canvas, and bestselling author for a keynote at the 5th MBS Doctoral Conference last Friday.
Alex Osterwalder delivered an inspiring and entertaining keynote with the title "From Doctoral Dissertation to Author and Entrepreneur with an Impact."
During his presentation, Alex Osterwalder shared his journey from being a Research Fellow at the University of Lausanne to achieving global recognition with the Business Model Canvas and further works. His work landed him on the list of the Thinkers50, a ranking of leading management thinkers, repetitively. 💯
His talk aimed to inspire our DBA candidates by demonstrating how to make research findings relevant and accessible to a broader audience. And he achieved to inspire MBS core faculty, too - “Thank you for such an amazing presentation!” (Prof. Nancy Landrum) was just an example for a reaction.
Five takeaways from his keynote ➡️
• Timeless Problems: Focus on solving problems that are timeless. Conduct thorough research and find innovative solutions.
• Create Simple Tools: Develop tools that are simple and visual, easy to understand and require no explanation. The simpler they are, the more likely they will be widely adopted.
• Early Sharing and Feedback: Share ideas on your thinking early to receive ample feedback. Continuously test and revise your ideas based on this feedback.
• Risk-Taking: Play around, take risks, be vulnerable, and look stupid until you look smart.
• Project Management: Be ready to kill projects/ideas that don’t work and only focus on scaling those that do.
Thank you, Alex Osterwalder, for your invaluable insights and inspiration. Your journey and advice are incredibly motivating for our DBA candidates and the wider MBS community! 🙏

💡 WHAT IS THE MBS TEACHING DAY? 💡
Wondering what the MBS Teaching Day is all about? It's a dynamic event where educators come together to explore innovative teaching methodologies and share insights on enhancing the learning experience. 📚
Our recent Teaching Day focused on "Playful Learning: Harnessing the Power of Games in Education". Our faculty dived deep into how games can revolutionize teaching, making learning more engaging and effective. 💡
The event kicked off with a keynote speech by Dr. Jakub Cichor from the TUM Center for Educational Technologies, which focused on how game elements can influence learning. 🎮
This was followed by workshops to try out playful learning methods in practice. Prof. Dr. Christian Schmidkonz held a workshop on immersive learning, Prof. Dr. Arnd Albrecht, MBA developed creative potentials with Lego Serious Play and Prof. Dr. Alexandra Hauser and Prof. Dr. Patricia Kraft found playful conflict solutions in a medieval role-playing game. It was great fun to take part!
The evening ended with delicious finger food and drinks and an exciting scavenger hunt at the MBS Campus.
A big thank you to our Learning and Teaching Committee with Prof. Dr. Hauser (Vice Dean Learning and Teaching), Prof. Dr. Kraft, Prof. Dr. Schmidkonz and Natalie Krettek, who organized this fantastic event. 👏
Stay tuned as we integrate the approaches of playful learning into our lectures and teaching methods. Join us in reimagining education through the power of games! 🚀
🎓 MBS GRADUATION CEREMONY RECAP - BACHELOR'S GRADUATES 🎓
Two weeks ago, we witnessed about 50 graduates of the Bachelor International Business, adorned in hats and gowns, at the culmination of their academic journey. MBS dean Prof. Stefan Baldi and Chancellor Dr. Christine Menges led the ceremony, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening.
Amidst cheers and applause from families and friends, one by one, each graduate was called to the stage to receive their hard-earned certificate, a testament to their dedication and perseverance. 🌟 The pride and happiness were palpable as the bachelor’s track speakers, Arzu-Elmas Öz and Leonie Hoffmann, expressed their admiration for the cohort's achievements, echoing the sentiments of everyone present.
As the ceremony progressed, Prof. Dr. Arnd Albrecht, MBA, the Academic Director of the Bachelor International Business, took us on a nostalgic journey through the student's academic endeavors, accompanied by carefully selected music to encapsulate each milestone. The atmosphere was electric as the journey culminated in a jubilant rendition of "We Are the Champions," igniting a party spirit amongst all. 🎶 🎉
And what's a graduation without the iconic hat toss? 🎓 Capturing the essence of camaraderie and shared triumph, the students gathered for one final group picture, tossing their caps high into the air, symbolizing the end of one chapter and the beginning of another.
Congratulations to the Class of 2024, you are truly champions in every sense of the word! 🌟
