🌍 Trump put tariffs back on the agenda. But trade policy is more complex than it seems.

In the latest issue of WISU, Prof. Dr. Florian Bartholomae and Prof. Dr. Karl Morasch explain why tariffs, quotas, and other trade policies don't always have the effects we expect.

🎓 At Munich Business School, students explore these topics in the Bachelor elective Globalization and International Trade and the Master elective International Economic Relations.

💡 The key takeaway? It's not just whether governments intervene in trade - but how they do it. The design of trade policy shapes prices, competition, and global supply chains.

👏 Congratulations to Prof. Dr. Florian Bartholomae and Prof. Dr. Karl Morasch on this publication!

Two suspects. Two interrogation rooms. One dilemma. 🤔

Why do rational people sometimes make decisions that leave everyone worse off?

In the latest issue of WISU, Prof. Dr. Florian Bartholomae explains the Prisoner's Dilemma—one of the most influential concepts in economics and game theory.

At Munich Business School, students dive deeper into the Prisoner's Dilemma and other concepts of game theory in the Master elective "Applied Game Theory", where they learn how strategic decision-making shapes business, politics, and society.

The Prisoner's Dilemma isn't just about crime—it helps explain:
🤝 Why cooperation can fail
💼 Why cartels often collapse
🌍 Why tackling climate change is so challenging

The key takeaway? Cooperation often doesn't fail because people are selfish—it fails because the incentives are wrong.

👏 Congratulations to Prof. Dr. Florian Bartholomae on this publication!

The government cuts a tax. So why doesn't the price go down? 🤔

It sounds simple: lower taxes should mean lower prices. But economics tells a different story.

In the latest issue of WISU, Prof. Dr. Florian Bartholomae explains why elasticity determines who really benefits from a tax cut - a concept students explore already in their first-semester Microeconomics course in the Bachelor International Business programme at Munich Business School.

⛽ Fuel tax rebate (2022): Most of the tax cut reached consumers at the pump.

🍝 Restaurant VAT cut (2026): Despite lower VAT, menu prices barely changed.

Same policy. Different outcome. The reason? Market structure - not political intention - determines where the savings end up.

👏 Congratulations to Prof. Dr. Florian Bartholomae on this publication!
