Learning by doing 🧱✨

Students from our International Communication and Business programme recently took part in an interactive guest session with Prof. Ralph Kriechbaum as part of their International Management and Project Work courses.

Using a LEGO-based simulation, students worked in teams to explore the importance of communication, coordination, standards and teamwork in complex organisational settings. The hands-on exercise challenged participants to solve problems collaboratively, adapt to changing conditions and experience first-hand how effective project work depends on clear processes and strong communication.

Audiodeskription ist die Filmbeschreibung für Menschen mit Sehbehinderung. Unser Referent Dr. Bernd Benecke arbeitet als Hörfilmredakteur beim Bayerischen Rundfunk und gehört zu den Pionieren dieses faszinierenden Berufsfelds.

3 days, 30+ kilometres on foot, and countless new perspectives.
 
Our Berlin excursion was packed with experiences that brought many of the topics discussed in class to life. From visiting Knauer and BMW Motorrad and gaining first-hand insights into production processes, communication, marketing, sales, and start-up culture, to exploring the German Parliament and speaking directly with a Head of Office, there was plenty to discover beyond the lecture hall.
 
The group also visited the Federal Foreign Office, learning more about its work and exploring potential career opportunities within one of Germany’s key institutions.
 
But Berlin wasn’t just about professional insights. Great food, cold beers, sunshine, and the city’s unmistakable atmosphere made the trip even more memorable.
 
A special thank you to Prof. Maximilian von Geyr for organising this excursion, to Prof. David Lowis for arranging and hosting our visit to the Federal Foreign Office, and to Mr David Drevs for sharing the stories behind Berlin’s buildings and history, helping us all see the city from a completely different perspective.
 
Experiencing industries, institutions, and people first-hand is one of the best ways to broaden horizons and connect theory with practice. Thank you to everyone who joined us!

SDI-Garten in voller Blüte! 🌸☀️🍀😍

Vielleicht hat es der eine oder die andere schon bemerkt: Im SDI München wächst und gedeiht so einiges!

In den vergangenen Wochen waren Studierende und Lehrende fleißig und haben Kompost ausgebracht, Gemüse gepflanzt, Blumen gehegt, Beete gewässert und — tja, auch Schnecken abgesammelt ...

Seit 2019 existiert das Projekt jetzt schon: eine freiwillige Initiative, zu der auch der Erhalt einer (für Insekten besonders wertvollen) Wildblumenwiese hinter dem Haus gehört. Schaut und hört gern mal vorbei! 🐝

Weiterbildung am SDI München (12./13. Juni 2026)

🎞️ Wir alle haben schon mal die Abkürzungen CC (Closed Captions) oder SDH (Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing) für Untertitel für Menschen mit Hörbeeinträchtigungen gesehen. Aber wie produziert man solche SDH-Untertitel? Und wie entwickelt man daraus ein berufliches Standbein?

Diese und viele andere Fragen beantwortet unsere Referentin, die erfahrene Untertitlerin Birgit Leib, in ihrem praxisnahen, PC-basierten Workshop am 12./13. Juni am SDI München.

Kristina Kilian completed her Master’s degree in Intercultural Communication at International University SDI München. Her master’s thesis focused on business models. Since then, she has worked in a start-up, in HR, and is now working at Amazon in Payroll and Financial Analysis.

In our Business Intelligence course, she gave students of the Digital Media Manager programme exciting insights into how Amazon uses the BI tool Amazon QuickSight in practice. 📊
