A mysterious chair has appeared in Year 3… 👀🪑
Who did it belong to? Why has it been left behind? And what could it have to do with the story they are about to read?

Year 3 have begun exploring The Heart and the Bottle by Oliver Jeffers, a thoughtful picture book about love, loss, memories and protecting ourselves from difficult emotions. The mysterious empty chair was the hook into the text, encouraging pupils to observe and make inferences before even opening the book. As Jeffers doesn’t explicitly explain everything, the illustrated pages and small details in the drawings will give readers clues, encouraging them to look beyond the words and work things out for themselves. Therefore, the empty chair is a great way to build excitement and curiosity around a new story, while introducing elements they will encounter in the book — from inference to metaphor.

Thanks to everyone who joined us at Hirschau Biergarten on Sunday for a lovely end-of-summer meet-up! ☀️

Kids played, crafted and made friends across year groups, while grown-ups got to know each other better. It was great to see our community come together outside the school grounds for a more relaxed occasion, with many four-legged friends joining too!
New and established families had the chance to meet, catch up and enjoy proper conversations — something that can be hard to do during school pick-up.

A big thank you to the St. George’s Parent Committee for organising the afternoon, and to our Head of Secondary and School Director for joining us 💙

What does a typical school day really look like through the eyes of our children?

This morning, parents got a closer look at daily life at St. George’s as our Heads of Upper Primary and Lower Secondary shared insights into the routines, learning experiences and wider opportunities that shape school life.

Our students then joined the conversation, leading parents around the school. From their classrooms to the theatre and music rooms, students shared what their days look like and answered questions along the way.
It was fantastic to see so many parents getting involved and interacting with our students — and a great way to start our Coffee Morning series for the new academic year!

Last Friday, our IB Diploma students presented their Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Exhibitions — one of the three core pillars of the International Baccalaureate, alongside the Extended Essay and CAS project.

TOK challenges students to ask how do we actually know what we know? — exploring reason, emotion, perception, and more across subjects like science, history, and the arts.

Some of our students got beautifully personal with it, exploring knowledge and culture, and how what we read only tells part of the story. Real understanding often comes through experience: talking with family and experts, sharing traditions, learning directly from people who carry a culture within them.

Others explored the power of imagination and intuition — how it sparks curiosity, drives discovery, and sometimes leads to entirely new knowledge.

A powerful reminder: don’t just believe everything you read — talk, question, and experience for yourself.

🎓 Exceptional IB Results 🎓

According to the latest published average IB Diploma scores, St. George’s Munich is ranked No. 2 in Germany for the Class of 2026.

This is an outstanding result — one that reflects the high expectations we set for our students and is made possible by our ongoing investment in educational research, evidence-based teaching methods, a dedicated staff who truly know and support each student, and a school environment where students feel respected and encouraged to take risks and grow in confidence.

Every section of our school holds a weekly assembly — a powerful British tradition that shapes our school community. A moment to come together, reflect, and recognise the effort we put in.

Last Friday, Upper Primary kicked off its very first assembly of the year with a big question: how will they set the tone for the year ahead?

🎶 Pupils were treated to a short intro song performed by their teachers, because we know just how powerful music can be!

The staff also shared how they set the tone for their classrooms and their days. Inspired by real tone setters such as Rosa Parks and Florence Nightingale — who embody courage, creativity, confidence, and community — pupils reflected on how they can live our school values from day one.

On Monday, we welcomed our students back to St. George’s for another exciting school year! While most pupils were busy greeting teachers and friends, a very special group gathered in the courtyard: our new Year 1 students.

Some grew up with us, some are new to our school, others are new to Munich — but today, they all became St. George’s primary students together.
With festive balloons and their very own Schultüte, a beloved German tradition, pupils and families captured this special milestone, creating a memory they’ll look back on for years to come.

Starting school is a big step, and our Year 1 children were really brave. We can’t wait to see all the wonderful things they’ll discover, learn, and achieve this year.

During our induction days, we took a special moment to celebrate colleagues marking 5 and 10 years with St. George’s. Every year, we proudly recognise these milestones — sometimes including even longer journeys, such as 15- and 20-year anniversaries!

Joined by new colleagues and Ms von Mutius on behalf of the School Board, it was a touching celebration of the people who make our community what it is: teachers, Hausmeisters, admin staff and colleagues across the school.

Last Friday, Welcome Day gave returning and new families the chance to connect with our school community, and meet their children’s teachers ahead of the first day of school today!

Our school welcomes families from over 50 different countries. This special day allowed them to ease into a new environment, ask questions and start building the networks that make a new school feel like home.

With a second-hand uniform sale, a lovely Schultüte craft table for Year 1 pupils, a School Discovery Challenge, and several sessions about life in Munich, there were plenty of activities for families to engage with each other and find out more.

Welcome everyone to what will surely be another fantastic year!
