Europe’s hoteliers are taking on B-com in the fight of the decade. 💥

1️⃣ Tens of thousands of hotels across Europe are joining the lawsuit
More than 10,000 hotels have joined a collective action against Booking.com, accusing it of abusive practices that stopped them from offering lower prices outside the platform.

2️⃣ The lawsuit is based on a 2024 legal precedent
In Sept 2024, the European Court of Justice ruled that “best price” (rate parity) clauses are illegal in the EU.

3️⃣ Damages are sought for a 20-year period (2004–2024)
Hotels are claiming compensation for financial losses allegedly caused over two decades.

4️⃣ The case is filed in the Netherlands, coordinated by Hotel Claims Alliance & HOTREC
Backed by 30+ national hotel associations across Europe.

5️⃣ Booking.com denies the allegations
The company says the claims are flawed & misleading, and argues parity clauses are not automatically unlawful.

💡 My point: The only thing I care about is my hotel’s profitability.
It’s all about vision & strategy. Daily tactics. Healthy distribution mix. And no — I do not respect parity! 😏 Do what’s right for you.

This week, I wanted to write about something else. But after finishing a call with one hotelier, I decided to rewrite my WEEK 16 reflection for you — and this is the outcome.
It’s been more than 6 years since I started to “play” with mindset in revenue management, dynamic pricing, and in general, owning and running a hotel. It was a crazy decision — and I have NEVER regretted it!
Your hotel reflects more than your design, service, or location. It reflects you—your leadership, your beliefs, your energy. If you’re playing small, unclear, or inconsistent… your property shows it.
Because how you lead is how it looks.
🔍 What Your Hotel Might Be Saying About You
A messy brand or unorganised website where it is quite difficult to even find what you offer?→ It often mirrors inner chaos or lack of clarity.
Scared to raise your rates?→ Maybe you don’t fully believe in the value you deliver.
Inconsistent or invisible online presence?→ Perhaps you’re hiding instead of owning your space.

SISI stands for s*it in, s*it out!

No matter how big your data is, the quality is what counts.

In revenue management, we need market segments, and in many cases, this segmentation is totally wrong.

It is time to rethink how you analyze your results and use the data to forecast. Because wrong market segmentation is your highway to hell!

❌ The reporting will be a nightmare.
❌ No proper lead time per segment insights.
❌ No avatar-based marketing.

Mixing distribution channels/sources and the willingness to pay certain rates can overcomplicate everything and mess up your strategies and tactics, and also drain your marketing budget.

Be aware that marketing segmentation is not equal to market segmentation. The first one is used in marketing; the second one is used in revenue management. Both are equally important. It only depends on what you want to analyze and why you are using the data.
