As we strive to create a more sustainable future, it is vital to consider the impact of our built environment on the planet. One solution is to incorporate ecological building practices into the design and construction of our homes and buildings.

This winter, for the first time, the certificate program Ecological Building was held on this topic.

Our participants received in-depth training in the fundamentals of qualitative and quantitative analysis of sustainability-relevant sub-aspects of buildings and urban neighborhoods.
The focus was on ecological as well as economic, social and technical aspects. Experienced lecturers provided an integral planning approach on how to plan and implement sustainable buildings, neighborhoods and cities for the future.
On our last day we also visited Germany's largest wooden house and ecological model settlement, the Prinz-Eugen-Park in Munich.

Thank you so much for working together to create a greener built environment!

Our huge thank you also to all of our academic partners and practical experts for their engagement and successful collaboration: Prof. Dr.-Ing. Werner Lang, Prof. Dr. Benedikt Boucsein, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Stephan Pauleit, Prof. Dr. rer. nat. habil. Brigitte Helmreich, Prof. Dr. Magnus Fröhling, Jakob Fellner, Dr. Simone Linke, Alice Hollenstein and many more.

We are very much looking forward to our next program run in November 2023!

"Brewing is craftsmanship, science and art": Interview about the Certificate Program "Brauer Cursus Weihenstephan" 19/01/2023

Is an art, a craft or a science? 🍺

Dr. Martina Gastl, Director of the Forschungszentrum Weihenstephan für Brau- und Lebensmittelqualität at TUM, explains, that “with a history of more than 6,000 years, beer is one of the oldest biotechnologically produced products known to mankind. Brewing is therefore both a craft and a scientific discipline. But brewing is certainly also an art. We work with natural products: It takes a lot of know-how to compensate for seasonal differences in malt and hops and to be able to serve the consumer a beer that always has the same taste and is of consistently high quality. The brewing of beer is also very creative, which is reflected in the ongoing craft beer movement.”

Read more in our interview with her. You will also find interesting insights into the so-called “cradle of the art of brewing” and the research brewery .

Last week we stepped into the third semester of the in & . 🥳

In our get together, students from all tracks met for the first time. The motto of the evening: Bavarian Night!

🙌 Highlight of the kick-off with Prof. Dr. Thomas Hutzschenreuter were for example interactive exercises like the "belt exercise", which really animated everybody to jump in and take part.

💡 Particularly inspiring was the visit of alumnus Moritz Schüller: as co-founder of BEEZER Technologies GmbH, he presented his career from the idea - which, by the way, was born during this Master's - to the founding of the company. Beezer is also still part of the program: a student group is working on a project with the start-up.

🎨 Entrepreneurial thinking was conveyed with a handicraft exercise by Prof. Dr. Holger Patzelt. The results turned out highly creative!

Many thanks for this excellent start. We are looking forward to the coming semester!

It was now the turn of the Executive in & participants to explore Berkeley, USA. 👀🙌

During the International Management & Intercultural Cooperation module, the participants had the opportunity to challenge their perspectives in an international context. They learned and exchanged ideas with different companies:

👏 Salesforce - thank you Bradley Wickwire for sharing the story of Salesforce, its core values, and topics on innovation, scaling & the definition of a great program leader among other great insights.

👏 Niantic, Inc. - thanks to Jeff Shouger for pointing out Niantic's path of success, its key partners, target groups and much more.

👏 Autodesk - thanks to Marymoore P. and Christine Lee for making this great experience possible and to Ameya Kambli as well as Nikhil Mane for giving us an insight into the overall story of the company and for the great tour of the current exhibition.

The interaction and dialogue with leaders in the fields of innovation, entrepreneurship, and venture capital was inspiring, since the participants were able to reflect and learn in a personal level and in their own projects and goals. The networking opportunities were again a highlight of the study trip, as friendships were formed among the students. It has been a great pleasure!

A special thanks also to our two professors Jerome Engel and David Charron, who planned and executed the whole week with a lot of dedication as well as to Nicole Reinhold, who managed the trip from the side of the TUM with a lot of great care and engagement.

For the 14th time already, this study surveyed about their values and attitudes, this year with a special focus on coping with the current crises. The study was implemented jointly with the TUM Chair of Research and Science Management and the TUM Institute for LifeLong Learning.

These are the key findings:

💡 Trust, responsibility and respect are given the highest importance by leaders as core values in the corporate context. Trust is not only the most important value, but also gained in importance among leaders.

💡 The vast majority of the leaders surveyed see the digital transformation as an opportunity for Germany (> 75%), its economy and themselves personally. However, the proportion of skeptical leaders - especially in the areas of "Germany as a business location" and the "digital world of work." At the same time, many leaders in Germany perceive their industries and companies as pioneers of of .

💡 Leaders were asked in which areas they had learned the most personally and at organizational levels over the past year. One key lesson learned was that acting as a team and acting according to one's own values is important for overcoming crises. In addition, virtual was found not to have significantly affected relationship quality and management across all levels.

💡 Overall, leaders see their personal and organizational as high - especially in large companies with more than 250 employees. Sources of their resilience in challenging times are the use of creative leeway, dealing openly with mistakes and their perseverance.
