Saying goodbye to our friends at the care home - Last week, Ms Jana Hesse’s Year 5 class visited their friends at the care home for the last time. Over the past two years, genuine friendships had developed between the children and the residents.
To mark their farewell, the children presented the residents with brooches they had made themselves and delighted them with a cheerful dance performance. The residents clapped along, smiling and moving to the beat of the music.
It was an emotional farewell that will be fondly remembered by all for a long time to come 🥰!

In this year's summer edition of our ESM Magazine, we explore a theme that lies at the heart of the European School Munich and extends far beyond the classroom: European values.
What do they mean to us? And how do we bring them to life in our daily school community and in our teaching?
This edition also highlights the wide range of opportunities offered by our STEM departments. At ESM, we not only teach languages and foster intercultural understanding, but also equip our students with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
We hope you enjoy reading 😊!

The hot, humid conditions provided a perfect backdrop to the rainforest exhibition that 4En hosted this week. Children from other classes explored a range of rainforests from around the World from the Amazon to the Daintree Rainforest 🤩!
They were emersed in the sounds, dioramas, and keynote presentations. They spotted explorer in the forests and listened to first-hand accounts of their travels into the unchartered worlds. Climate, weather and focus on landscapes were all covered here.

As we bring the 2025/26 school year to a close, yesterday's End-of-Year Conference provided an opportunity to reflect on another successful year at the European School Munich.
School Director Anton Horvath looked back on the highlights and achievements of the last school year while sharing an outlook on exciting projects and developments for the year ahead. Primary School Head Simona Cajhen, Secondary School Head Martin Duggen, and Director of Finance and Administration Andreas Wallrodt also reflected on the past year within their respective areas and presented plans for the future.
A particularly heartfelt moment was the opportunity to say goodbye to colleagues who are leaving the ESM. Thank you for your dedication, professionalism and the lasting contribution you have made to our school community. ❤️👏
We wish you every success and happiness in the next chapter of your journey—you will always be part of the ESM family!

Traditional end-of-year school trip for SWALS pupils 🤩!
It has become a lovely tradition to round off the school year with a group trip. This year, we walked from Herrsching to Andechs Abbey.
Despite the summer heat, the walk was pleasant as much of the route ran through a shady forest. Spending time together in nature gave us plenty of opportunities to chat and strengthened our bond as a group.
An exciting programme awaited us at Andechs Abbey. We learnt a great deal about the history of the old abbey pharmacy and the production of medicines. The special highlight of the day was a visit to the interactive TimeRide exhibition. Under the title 'Knowledge, Wonders, Effects', our pupils were immersed in the fascinating world of abbey pharmacies. The exhibition appealed to all the senses, impressively demonstrating the interplay between the art of healing, spirituality, and scientific progress.
Trips like this are educational and foster a sense of community, strengthening the bonds between our SWALS pupils. It was a wonderful way to bring the school year to a close, with many wonderful memories and unforgettable experiences.

In our P5 common project, "Steps to Europe" all P5 classes worked together in mixed-colour teams and travelled through five European-themed workshops focusing on mythology, European history, technology, geography, languages and music. Equipped with their own European passports, the pupils explored Europe through collaboration, creativity and active learning 🤩.
The project concluded with a collective gathering and the performance of our common song, "Voices of Europe", celebrating the richness of European languages and the motto "United in Diversity."
It was a wonderful example of cooperation between teachers and pupils across different language sections and an opportunity for children to experience Europe not only as a geographical space but also as a community of shared values, cultures and languages.
We were particularly proud of the enthusiasm, teamwork and engagement shown by all pupils throughout the day. The positive feedback from both children and colleagues confirmed the success of this collaborative initiative 👏👍🤩.

The P4/5 ELA class is participating this year in the e-Twinning project “Heart of Goals – Skill-s Me for Life” in collaboration with schools from many European countries like Spain, Greece, Italy, Poland, Czechia, Bulgaria...
The project focuses on pupils’ well-being, social and emotional learning, sustainable development, life skills and active citizenship. Through international cooperation and collaborative activities, the pupils have the opportunity to exchange ideas and work together with peers across Europe on topics related to well-being, inclusion, sustainability and the Sustainable Development Goals.
This project offers our pupils a valuable opportunity to develop key competences, strengthen their European awareness and actively engage in meaningful learning experiences within an international educational network 👏🤩.
