The multiplier event of the Erasmus plus "Clean, green future through STEM-sport clubs" - Cooperation for innovation and the exchange of good practices 2020-1-NO01-KA202-076537 project took place in our school on 11th December 2023 where the city administration, the county chamber of commerce and industry, businesses, public education and vocational training institutions were invited.

The programme offered participants an insight into the laboratory activities. At our premises in Czollner Square, guests were able to explore tools and activities mainly related to engineering and technology. Students from the Bányai Júlia Secondary School in Kecskemét took part in activities in two groups: one of them was woodworking, including making objects with lathes using Unimat tools. In the other room, they built a scooter from the Infento kit. In the Öveges Student Lab at Piaristák Square, students from the Piarist Secondary School presented project elements to the guests. One group took part in a chemistry lab exercise, where they tested water and treated wastewater. In the other lab, they mainly demonstrated the use of digital tools, robotic arms, 3D printers, scanners, as well as programming Microbit kits, Lego and Arduino robots.

After an informal discussion, the event was opened by József Gaál, Deputy Mayor of Kecskemét, who emphasized that the primary goal of the city and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry is to make Kecskemét innovative and forward-looking. To this end, it is important to create partnerships and alliances that serve this goal and establish the legitimacy of the clubs created by the student labs.

Mr Domonkos Mikulás, Director, presented the results of the Erasmus plus project, which has just ended, and spoke about the situation of the student labs and their cooperation possibilities. He pointed out that these clubs and student labs can make a major contribution to the decision making process for people about to choose a career, and can also serve the needs of higher education and businesses, if they are known. The last part of the event provided an opportunity to discuss in small groups the real needs of market players, higher education and public education and training institutions, which could strengthen cooperation.

Erasmus days at the Dugo Selo High School

Erasmus Online Student Conference in Kecskemét (Hungary)

The 3rd Erasmus online Students' Conference was organized on 10th October 2023 by Kecskemét Piarist School with the primary aim of internationalization and also to bring together students from different countries and give them the opportunity to share their talents and interests.

Today was an exceptional occasion, since, in addition to the fact that all tasks were completed by students, speakers and participants from Argentina, Spain, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary joined in. The entire conduct of the conference and the coordination of the online rooms were undertaken by the students of the St. Thomas Piarist High School in Cordoba. A total of 20 English and 5 German presentations were prepared and performed by Hungarian, Polish and Spanish students. The topics covered various areas of life, such as choosing a career, dedication to a hobby, choir competition experiences, scouting, airplanes, fashion, the Olympics, the difference between the Harry Potter book and the movie, living the faith, introducing Hungarians, Zaragoza, Malta, and Tokyo.

It was a pleasure to see that the students listened to each other with interest, and with the help of Sli-do they were able to ask questions to the lecturers. After the online rooms, all coordinators reported on what they had heard in the common space, so everyone could get a taste of what was discussed in the different spaces. It was a great experience, an even greater experience for everyone. What is certain is that we will organize it again next year.

STEM - experiments and interesting facts

Pupils from the Kecskemét Calvinist Primary School who visited the Öveges Student Lab on 15th June 2023 were introduced to the world of science. The third-graders arrived with great curiosity and were even more enthusiastic to participate in the tasks, activities and demonstrations. It was important for us to show them experiments that allowed them to experience the different properties of substances in nature and to see first-hand the diversity of chemical reactions.

One of the key objectives of the Clean, green future through STEM-sport clubs project is to raise awareness of science at a young age as well as the importance and beauty of science. The students of the Kecskemét Calvinist Primary School participated with great enthusiasm and spread the word about the opportunities offered by STEM. We look forward to welcoming them back!

Green Erasmus 💚


As active participants in the seminar: Green pathways in Erasmus+, we were in Munich and participated in numerous activities. During these activities, ideas are disseminated that have as a focal point a quote from Albert Einstein: "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking that created them." In other words, we promote young people to think differently from the one that represents today's "status quo" in terms of energy. In this way, we try to globalize our influence, and show young people that everything is really in their hands: by changing our thinking, we change our everyday life and quality of life.

STEM - sharing experience

Recently, several international and national groups have visited our school to be part of our daily life and to get a taste of the work we do in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics).

A group of primary school pupils from Olot came to visit us and, in addition to the school activities, they were able to learn about the world of the Öveges Student Lab and carry out experiments with their peers from Kecskemét.

A group of high school students from Granada came to the Piarist Secondary School in Szeged, who were also curious to know the secret of why so many of our students in Kecskemét achieve so many good results and love science. They were also fascinated by the exciting lab activities and went home full of experiences.

The youngest class of the Piarist Secondary School of Budapest planned a field trip to Kecskemét to see and experience the lab first hand. An entire class was enthusiastic and immersed in the mysteries of experimentation, and were eager to share their experiences with their peers back home.

The headmaster and a teacher of a Piarist school in Pamplona visited us to discuss the possibilities of different collaborations. Of course, they also participated in the laboratory sessions.

This week, two colleagues from the Czech Republic, Základní škola Veselí nad Moravou school, are job-shadowing in our school's primary and secondary schools. They are taking part in activities and workshops with the students so that they can share their knowledge at home.

We are proud that in all lab activities and tasks, our students volunteer their time to help the Öveges Student Lab and the school to make our activities known to as many people as possible.
