🇨🇴🇨🇱Leadership, dialogue and international cooperation in Gimborn

Last week, we welcomed a joint delegation from Colombia and Chile for a five-day police leadership training programme. The group brought together eight officers from each country, all working in middle-management positions across different departments, as well as the Chilean police attachée.

👏A particular highlight was the work on case studies jointly prepared by the Policía Nacional de Colombia and the Carabineros de Chile. Based on practical leadership challenges, they created space for open discussion, different perspectives and shared solutions.

With every participant bringing their own leadership experience to the table, the sessions were highly practical and closely connected to daily police work. Throughout the programme, our experts contributed comprehensive training and specialised police expertise.

Five days of learning, exchange and new connections—across institutions and borders.

The project took place as part of our trilateral police project, which is funded by the Federal Foreign Office. Auswärtiges Amt

A great example of international police cooperation in practice. 🌍👮

It was a pleasure to welcome our colleagues from the Policía Nacional de Colombia and the Carabineros de Chile to IBZ Gimborn for this intensive leadership programme.

As the International Training Center of the International Police Association (IPA), we were especially pleased that IPA International President Martin Hoffmann joined us in Gimborn to personally welcome the delegation.

Many thanks to our cooperation partner GS-Foundation, all experts and participants for making this international exchange possible.

𝙊𝙣𝙚 𝙬𝙚𝙚𝙠. 𝙉𝙞𝙣𝙚 𝙘𝙤𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙨. 𝙊𝙣𝙚 𝙨𝙝𝙖𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙜𝙤𝙖𝙡. 🙌

Last week, around 40 police officers from nine countries trained with us at Castle Gimborn – from Cyprus, Germany, Ireland, the UK, Slovenia, the Republic of Moldova, Austria, Sweden and Spain. On the programme: "Police Street Survival Training" and "Point Shooting & Firearm Skills".

Modern operational training is more than marksmanship 💪 – decision-making under stress, officer safety, de-escalation and tactical emergency medicine. Training was scenario-based, using training weapons on site.

🌍What makes it special is the exchange across borders: when officers from nine countries run the same drills, everyone learns from everyone else. That is what the IBZ Schloss Gimborn stands for.

Thanks to our international training team and to Umarex for their support with the newly developed UMX 101 🙏

IBZ Schloss Gimborn and the GS-Foundation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen future cooperation in the field of international police and security training.

While the GS Foundation is internationally engaged in the field of Security Sector Reform, IBZ Schloss Gimborn, as the educational institution of the International Police Association IAC (IPA), stands for international exchange, professional training and cooperation between law enforcement and security professionals worldwide.

A first joint international leadership training with delegations from Chile is already planned for August 2026 at IBZ Schloss Gimborn.

We are looking forward to future international cooperation and professional exchange.

Point Shooting and Fi****ms Skills

Description

Specialist Training for Armed Police OfficersDelivered by the IPA-Defensive Tactics Group (IPA) in collaboration with Explosive Defensive Tactics Systems (ESDS).

Note: This intensive long-weekend course begins on the final day of the Police Street Survival Course (PSS). While it can be taken as a stand-alone programme, PSS delegates have the option to extend their training seamlessly into this course—maximising value and saving time.

Course Overview

This course is designed for officers who may be required to use their firearm in a high-stress, threat-to-life scenario. You don’t need to be a specialist, but you must be authorised to carry a firearm.

This is not a range safety course. It is about survival when the situation is at its most dangerous.

Why This Training Matters

On the range, you’ve been trained to shoot accurately and proficiently using the principles of marksmanship. The target turns, you fire, you pass your qualification, and you’re cleared to carry your firearm on duty.

But the street is different.

Carefully aimed shots and traditional sight alignment have their place. But when someone is actively trying to kill you at short range, it becomes a matter of “the quick and the dead.”

Imagine, you on duty when you are surprised and attacked with a knife or firearm. You draw your pistol as fast as you can, moving instinctively to escape the kill zone. You run for cover, you try to aim, but you can’t focus, your sights blur under stress. You try to move and shoot, but it’s difficult to coordinate with both hands on the pistol. This is the hardest day of your life—and your range training hasn’t prepared you for it.

This is where our course begins.

Course Content

The evidence that instinctive shooting works
Combat stress and the human body – how stress impacts vision, movement, and decision-making
One-handed shooting techniques – firing fast and accurately without relying on sights
Shooting on the move – engaging threats while creating distance, seeking cover, or closing down an assailant
Tactical application of instinctive shooting – integrating survival skills into operational practice
Reactional shooting under ambush – responding to sudden attacks with fi****ms or edged weapons
Tactical scenarios – immersive, high-pressure exercises replicating real-world threats
Key Outcomes

By the end of this course, officers will:

Understand how instinctive shooting complements existing fi****ms training
Build confidence in their ability to react effectively under extreme stress
Develop practical survival skills for dynamic, unpredictable encounters
Leave better prepared to protect yourself, your colleagues, and the public
Training Tools

We use high-quality Umarex G***k weapon systems, comparable to Simunition platforms. These allow officers to:

Train instinctive shooting methods without the expense or restrictions of live-fire ranges
Engage in realistic, force-on-force scenarios
Maximise safety while maintaining operational realism
This is not about competition shooting. It’s about survival when milli-seconds count.
