🎉 Halle 7 is open, and HHL's founders have a new home.

On October 1, the opened its new innovation center in Halle 7 of the Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei. On around 5,500 m², the City, , 's .gruendungsinitiative and HHL now pool their startup support.

What's new for HHL:
🟡 and the HHL Gründerinnen-Initiative form our new Entrepreneurship Hub.
🟡 More room for early-stage startups: HHL PROTOLAB supports first product development, and the HHL Traction Lab helps teams find their first customers.
🟡 Our own event space for student initiatives, workshops and networking.
🟡 and our Institute for Family Business and Business Succession are moving in too.

On opening day, the HHL Stage featured keynotes and talks on building with AI, prototyping, the courage to grow and business succession.

In three Founders Connect rounds, 14 startups from DIGITAL SPACE, the Gründerinnen-Initiative and PROTOLAB introduced themselves.

Hands-on sessions at the Ideation Table offered prototyping, company valuation and founder coaching.

Wie verändert Künstliche Intelligenz die Grundlagen unternehmerischen Handelns – von der Unterstützung einzelner Entscheidungen bis zu autonom agierenden Systemen? 🤖

Genau darüber haben wir vor zwei Wochen beim zweiten Unternehmensdialog@HHL mit Entscheider:innen aus HR, Personalentwicklung und Geschäftsführung gesprochen.

Prof. Dr. Florian Ellsaesser, Inhaber des Thalia Chair of Marketing and Retail an der HHL und Experte an der Schnittstelle von KI und Management, hat in seiner Keynote „The Three Stages of Successful AI in Business" gezeigt, wie Unternehmen KI heute wirklich nutzbar machen:

✅ Augmentation – KI unterstützt Führungskräfte dabei, fundiertere Entscheidungen zu treffen und Produkterfolg verlässlicher einzuschätzen.
✅ Automation – wiederkehrende Prozesse werden effizienter, Omnichannel-Strategien neu gedacht.
✅ Autonomous Action – Systeme übernehmen zunehmend eigenständig Aufgaben – und werfen damit neue Fragen für Management und Wettbewerbsfähigkeit auf.

Im Mittelpunkt stand dabei immer wieder derselbe Brückenschlag: wie aus Forschung zu Machine Learning und agentischer KI konkrete unternehmerische Praxis wird.

Sometimes a lecture hall goes silent. This was one of those times.

At the 8th Leipzig Leadership Lecture, part of this year's Welcome Weeks, — former Federal Minister of Finance of Germany, now Deputy CEO of — traced a line from the bond market to the decisions he has to make inside his own company.

His starting point: since 2025, governments financing rising sovereign debt and technology companies funding infrastructure investment have been drawing on the same pool of capital in the bond market. That competition pushes up interest rates.

For a car dealer, that's not abstract. Every car on the lot is financed capital sitting still. When capital gets more expensive, so does every day it doesn't sell.
Electric vehicles make the case sharper. They already lose value faster than combustion cars, so costlier capital and faster depreciation compound each other. In his business, the number that matters isn't how many cars you sell. It's how fast each one turns over.

It's also why diversifying across brands and drivetrains, however sensible on paper, only works for dealers whose balance sheet can absorb the extra capital that variety requires. Without that strength, diversification doesn't spread risk. It locks up more expensive capital in more places.
