Winners of the last sprint got funding from JENAINNOVATION and are supported by Gründungsservice der Universität Jena.

The Innovation Sprint is coming back to Jena. Together with WiWi-Fakultät der Universität Jena, LICHTWERKSTATT JENA, JenaInnovation and Gründungsservice der Universität Jena, we are creating a hands-on experience for students, researchers and aspiring founders who want to turn ideas into something real.

In five days, you will form a team, work on a real industry challenge, build and test your own prototype and pitch it on the final day in front of coaches, experts and founders.

No team needed. No idea required. Just bring your curiosity and we take care of the rest.

We are happy to announce that boOst has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Forschungsfabrik Mikroelektronik Deutschland (FMD)!

Together, we will support semiconductor-based startup teams through Fraunhofer’s service offerings and referrals to relevant institutes within the Fraunhofer Group, the European Network of Chip Competence Centres and beyond.

This partnership would not have been possible without the expertise of our Head of Semicon Track, Stefan. We are also happy to re-connect with Alexander Stanitzki at First by FMD!

What if we took technology and matched inventors with entrepreneurs ready to explore market potential?

International TUD|excite Summer School ended last Friday at TU Dresden: Ten teams turned technology descriptions and patent jargon into tight, concise, evidence-backed pitches and presented them live in front of the jury.

Main prizes were a wild card for the acceleration programme at Exitelab, and one for the next boOst Deep Tech Incubator: no application, no waiting in line.

Another big shoutout to Malte Windwehr and Franziska Greim, who ran the programme end to end.

Here’s how to have the best Team Day, step by step:

First, get 14 boOsties from Dresden, Leipzig & Chemnitz in one place.

Then, start by getting to know each other better: team roles, responsibilities, and what motivates us to do our jobs.

After a lunch full of conversations, start a canoe challenge with four boats. 🛶

And then paddle like your jobs depended on it. 😅🚣

Grateful for a team that shows up for the big questions and the ridiculous ones. 💪

If this has been sitting open in a tab since last week, it’s probably one of three reasons. Swipe, we’ve answered all of them.

Two days in Jena, 21 + 22 September, for researchers in optics, photonics and semiconductors. Free, and we bring a seasoned semiconductor founder ;).

Day 1: application areas, industry problems, ideation.
Day 2: value proposition, funding paths, team and IP.

No pitch at the end. No pressure to found. Just a clearer view of where your work lands outside the lab.

Most university patents never leave the lab.
 Last week, ten teams had five days to change that.

Researchers from across Europe took a real patent and worked out whether anyone would actually pay for it. One of the inventors was in a team himself, building on his own patent.

On day 2 the teams ran expert interviews and gathered first feedback right away. Some ideas survived the process, some didn’t.
 Then on Friday, all ten teams pitched at the Demo Day in front of a jury.

Startups meet corporate challenge - first steps to collaboration

Last week, European startups taking part in the Volkswagen Industry Challenge presented their progress at Volkswagen’s engine plant in Chemnitz.

At this site, hundreds of thousands of cylinder heads are manually inspected each year. The challenge is to automate the inspection process and relieve skilled employees for other tasks.

After direct feedback from Volkswagen and from the factory floor, the teams are now preparing for the demo day next month where they will present their final solutions.

Through the Industry Challenge format, boOst connects industry partners with concrete problems to startups equipped to solve it. In return, the startups gain market insights, a potential customer, and boOst’s support throughout the process.
