Without music, life is a journey through a desert. - Pat Conroy
The desert is a natural extension of the inner silence of the body. - Jean Baudrillard
The desert has its holiness of silence, the crowd its holiness of conversation. - Walter Elliot
Like water in the desert is wisdom to the soul. - Edward Counsel
Water, water, water....There is no shortage of water in the desert but exactly the right amount , a perfect ratio of water to rock, water to sand, insuring that wide free open, generous spacing among plants and animals, homes and towns and cities, which makes the arid West so different from any other part of the nation. There is no lack of water here unless you try to establish a city where no city should be. - Edward Abbey
The journey towards success is more like a traveller lost in a desert, desperate to find an oasis, desperate to quench his thirst. But it is not about how grave the thirst is but about how long he chooses to walk thirsty. - Chirag Tulsiani
Whatever you are by nature, keep to it; never desert your line of talent. Be what nature intended you for, and you will succeed. - Sydney Smith
The task of the modern educator is not to cut down jungles, but to irrigate deserts. - C. S. Lewis
There are deserts in every life, and the desert must be depicted if we are to give a fair and complete idea of the country. - Andre Maurois
In the oasis complex, the thirsty man images he sees water, palm trees, and shade not because he has evidence for the belief, but because he has a need for it. Desperate needs bring about a hallucination of their solution: thirst hallucinates water, the need for love hallucinates a prince or princess. The oasis complex is never a complete delusion: the man in the desert does see something on the horizon. It is just that the palms have withered, the well is dry, and the place is infected with locusts. - Alain De Botton
I dream of the realization of the unity of Africa, whereby its leaders combine in their efforts to solve the problems of this continent. I dream of our vast deserts, of our forests, of all our great wildernesses. - Nelson Mandela
The desert takes our dreams away from us, and they don't always return. We know that, and we are used to it. Those who don't return become a part of the clouds, a part of the animals that hide in the ravines and of the water that comes from the earth. They become part of everything. They become the Soul of the World. - Paulo Coelho
We will go into the future as a single sacred community, or we will all perish in the desert. - Thomas Berry
One can see from space how the human race has changed the Earth. Nearly all of the available land has been cleared of forest and is now used for agriculture or urban development. The polar icecaps are shrinking and the desert areas are increasing. At night, the Earth is no longer dark, but large areas are lit up. All of this is evidence that human exploitation of the planet is reaching a critical limit. But human demands and expectations are ever-increasing. We cannot continue to pollute the atmosphere, poison the ocean and exhaust the land. There isn't any more available. - Stephen Hawking
Among the environmental trends undermining our future are shrinking forests, expanding deserts, falling water tables, collapsing fisheries, disappearing species, and rising temperatures. The temperature increases bring crop-withering heat waves, more-destructive storms, more-intense droughts, more forest fires, and, of course, ice melting. We are crossing natural thresholds that we cannot see and violating deadlines that we do not recognize. - Lester R. Brown
Long ago Mars was an oasis of running water. Today the Martiansurfaceis a sterile, barren desert. Here on Earth, who knows what climactic k***s we unwittingly turn, which might one day render Earth as dry and lifeless as Mars. - Neil DeGrasse Tyson
