🎤 Grade 2 Goes to Work!

What does a school nurse’s day look like? Why does someone choose to work in Finance? Who does an Assistant Principal collaborate with? And what makes working at LIS special?

Our Grade 2 students recently became interviewers for the day, heading out across LIS to discover more about the many different people and professions that make our school community work.

Armed with thoughtful questions and plenty of curiosity, the students interviewed colleagues from across the school, including People & Culture, Learning Technology, Admissions, Kindergarten and Primary leadership and offices, Kitchen Staff, our School Nurse, Finance, the Secondary School Office, Inclusion, and a Secondary School Spanish teacher.

They asked questions such as: What is your role? Why did you choose this job? What does a typical day look like? Who do you work with? How does your role help LIS? And what do you enjoy most about your work?

The students returned to class full of excitement, new knowledge and stories to share. Along the way, they discovered something important: it takes people with many different skills, interests and responsibilities working together to make a school community thrive.

A huge thank you to all our LIS colleagues who took time out of their day to welcome our young interviewers, answer their questions and share their experiences. 💙

🌿Classroom turned green! 🌿🐛
Our Grade 4 learners swapped their desks for the school garden to explore ecosystems firsthand! With the wonderful support of the team from , they headed outdoors to learn directly from nature. 🕵️‍♂️🌱

True to our PYP approach, there was no rigid textbook learning. Instead, the children were guided to follow their own curiosity and investigate their very own questions.

While exploring, they put some of our favorite PYP skills into action:
• Looking closely (Observing) 🔍
• Questioning and connecting (Critical Thinking) 💡
• Sharing big ideas (Communicating) 🗣️
• Working hand-in-hand (Collaboration) 🤝

Learning from Nature: Our learners in Grade 4 explore Ecosystems in our School Garden. The children were encouraged to be curious and to follow their own questions. In doing so, they practised many of the skills we value in the PYP: observing carefully, thinking critically, communicating ideas and working collaboratively. Read the entire article below. 🐛🌿🦋

For two days, our Grade 4 students swapped their usual classroom for the school garden. Together with educators from the Sächsische Landesstiftung Natur und Umwelt (Saxon State Foundation for Nature and the Environment), they took part in a hands-on workshop exploring ecosystems.

A sense of belonging is something our community talks about consistently. Once you are part of LIS you are connected to a village of current families, graduated families, alumni, international educators and friends. It’s the thing we hear again and again ~ the people at LIS care about me and my family. We are proud to be so rooted in belonging. Why become a Parent Rep? We asked the people who already are.

“Even when you’re busy, this is how you stay connected. Don’t overthink it. Just do it.”

Our Parent Reps are the bridge. They help families stay connected, listen to ideas, pass on feedback, and make sure no one feels alone in our community. Last year they brought International Day to life and made the Graduation Breakfast happen — together.

It doesn’t take a lot of time. It takes showing up. And whatever you bring to the table, we would love to have you.
