Welcome to Bach in Leipzig! Bach's legacy is our calling.

The Bach Archive Leipzig was founded in 1950 at Johann Sebastian Bach's main place of activity in order to preserve Bach's heritage and historical documents located in Leipzig. As a center of Bach research with a special library and the interactive Bach Museum, the house is one of the "cultural beacons" of Germany. In addition, the foundation organizes the International Bach Competition as well as the annual Leipzig Bachfest, which attracts visitors from over 50 nations to Leipzig in the summer.

The Helsinki Baroque Orchestra and its soloists captivated the audience with the catchy melodies of Bach’s solo concertos. The concertos for two harpsichords and two violins drew enthusiastic applause at the sold-out Paulinum.

Johann Sebastian Bach knew exactly how to celebrate a queen and electora’s birthday, and composed “Tönet, ihr Pauken! Erschallet, Trompeten,” BWV 214. In doing so, he composed a catchy tune that, along with the Christmas Oratorio, would later become inseparable from our minds.

At the Leipzig Bachfest, this “dramma per musica” was performed, along with other compositions, interpreted by the Orchester Wiener Akademie and fabulous soloists under the direction of Martin Haselböck.

No fewer than four Bach Prize winners competed against one another at the Bach Festival, as the concert title suggested. They performed with virtuosity and energy in various ensembles alongside the Mendelssohn Chamber Orchestra of Leipzig, conducted by Peter Bruns.
