An exchange program between the College of St. Scholastica and the Medizinische Berufsfachschule am Universitätsklinikum in Leipzig, Germany. The College of St.
Scholastica cosponsors an exchange program with the University of Leipzig, Germany's Medizinische Berufsfachschule (Medical Occupations School). This partnership was developed for students in the health science fields, and promotes the integration of language and professional interests in an immersion model. During a two-week stay after the end of spring term, St. Scholastica students live with an
d shadow Leipzig students in their professional training and clinical practice while collecting information for their individual projects in the Spring Leipzig Seminar (GMN 3300). Participation in the exchange requires a minimum of one year college/three year's high school German and is recommended at the end of the junior or senior level to maximize professional experience. Eligible students are those who have German language backgrounds (minimum completion of GMN 1112 or 3 years of High School), are independent learners, and have a sense of adventure. Students in the Health Sciences will be given priority, and those enrolled in programs with an emphasis in German language, history, or international study are also given strong consideration, but CSS students in all disciplines are eligible. Up to four participants will be chosen each year. The exchange takes place primarily in the city of Leipzig, Germany, though typical weekend outings might include trips to Berlin, Dresden, and the surrounding areas.
