Current Events -- Conversations Between Past and Present
On the second Monday of each month we will meet and talk about one or more current events. The subject could be culture (art, literature, fashion, film, etc.), science (the environment, food, technological innovation, etc.), politics (democracy, dictatorship, economics, etc.) or some other relevant topic. As a starting point, for example, we may take a recent news headline or a political cartoon and then discuss its various implications, including its historical roots. The basic idea is to speak about topics the group finds compelling and/or complex, all within a safe and fun learning environment.
Dr. Laurie Cohen is an English teacher and historian of 19th and 20th century Europe, specialising in social movements.
