Did you already see the new exhibition „Forbidden words - forbidden thinking?“ in the library? 📚 After the decision of the US administration to delete certain words from the public space, the consequences for public and university life have been very broad. ❌
The exhibition gives an overview of which books are - or would be - forbidden in US bookstores or libraries. 🇺🇸Another table shows books on how to engage against the limitation of freedom of speech and democracy.
You can see „Forbidden words - forbidden thinking“ next to the BibCafé until the end of June. 🤓 the exhibition is a collaboration between the International Office, KIM and the Equal Opportunities Office of the University of Konstanz.

Buddy alert! 🤩
„☀ A sweet start to the summer semester in Konstanz!
To kick things off, we — Julia (Canada), Lotta (Finland) & Silke (from Konstanz)— made blueberry pancakes for the Buddy Potluck Event last month. This exchange Buddy programme is such a great way to meet new people, share cultures, and feel at home away from home 🌍✨ Whether it’s over food, games, or just good conversation — we’re so glad to be part of it! Here’s to new beginnings, new friends, and lots of delicious new tastes ahead! 🥳🍴🫶“
You would also like to become a Konstanz Buddy? Starting in July you can register for the new matching round! ☺️

Dive into winter wonderland with our ambassador! ❄️🍁
Our ambassador Jakob (see slide 2) studies Social & Economic Data Science here in Konstanz and went to the University of British Columbia in Kelowna, Canada during this year's winter term. Jakob loves the outdoors and always wanted to do his exchange somewhere with beautiful, untouched nature far from home. During consultation at the International Office Kelowna was suggested to him and he immediately saw the parallels to Konstanz - big lake, mountains, an excellent university... 🎓🏞️
And the decision definitely didn't disappoint! He tells us: "I got to know incredibly nice people, collected beautiful memories and hope to come back! Kelowna was the perfect location for me as its location gives you access to a variety of things - from desserts in the south to the Rocky mountains in the Northeast. The facilities and offers you have access to [at the UBC] are amazing - you can't even make use of them all." 🤩✨
During his time in Canada Jakob went on skiing and snowboarding trips (see slide 3-5), took up boxing at a local boxing gym, bought a car named Charlie, drove all the way from the Sunshine Coast to Kelowna and learned to love saying thank you when getting off the bus. His travel highlight was the drive from Banff to Jasper, which he describes as one of the most beautiful things he's ever seen in his life. His academic highlight was a course with Prof. Epperly where use of phones and laptops was prohibited - the disturbance-free environment and engaging discussions made it his favorite class! 🗺️🇨🇦

🇺🇲🇩🇪The University of Konstanz was honored to welcome Consul General to the United States, Mr. Brian Heath, and Public Diplomacy Chief to the US Consulate in Frankfurt, Ms. Michelle Kevern, last Friday. They traveled to Konstanz from the consulate in Frankfurt for a goodwill visit to discuss the current state of the US-Germany academic cooperation, and to get to know the university.
The visit was co-organized between the International Office and the Department of Politics and Public Administration, and members of our Cluster on the Politics of Inequality were also present during the meeting. Mr. Heath had a chance to talk to students who are about to depart for an exchange in the US, to US-American students and to students who just returned from the US to learn more about their questions and experiences.
Thank you for your visit and please come back anytime!

We’re excited to introduce Jone here on our channel as part of the International Office! 🎉 Jone recently started an internship with us, and we’re very happy to have her on the team 💙
"Hi! My name is Jone Makazaga, and I’m from the Basque Country, Spain. I first came to Konstanz in October 2021 as an Erasmus+ exchange student, and it turned out to be the best year of my life! In 2023, I decided to come back to study MA Multilingualism, and now I also work as a research assistant at the Baby Speech Lab 🧠👶
📍 My favorite place in Konstanz? Seestraße! I love walking by the lake 🌅, going on hikes with Hochschulsport 🌳, and ice skating in Kreuzlingen ⛸❄
💡 My tip for new students: When I was an exchange student, I didn’t know that Uni Konstanz students can also eat at the HTWG Mensa! Now that I’m back as a master’s student, I make sure to use my student card there too 🍽 😋"

Impressions from the Ontario/Baden-Württemberg orientation seminar ✨🇨🇦🇩🇪
The OBW orientation seminar took place last Thursday and Friday (08.-09.05). Its aims were to connect the outgoing German students, who will be studying in Ontario in the fall, and the incoming Canadian students, who are finishing up their exchanges in Baden-Württemberg 🤝🏻📚
The seminar participants received some very valuable input from the OBW program coordinators (see slide 2): Tina Bebensee on the BW side and Agnes Poleszczuk on the Ontario side (slide 2 on the Zoom screen). They also heard about the iconic Algonquin Park camping trip from the founding father of the program, Mark Webber. This trip will be a great opportunity for the group to bond before the start of their exchange 🏕️🚣🏻♀️
But of course, lots of fun was had too, including a Kahoot quiz on fun facts about BW and Ontario (see slide 3 for the winners 🏆). Another highlight was the Canadian students' presentations on their home institutions. Daniel's presentation on the University of Windsor (which was all in German!) was particularly convincing (see slide 4) 🥸
All in all, it was a blast hosting this wonderful group here in Konstanz and we wish them long-lasting friendships and the best time in Canada 🥰🍁
