MSR Working Papers | MS Research Hub - We Treat Your Mind 30/05/2026

New Insight from the latest MSR Working Paper Series by Bukhari Sillah

China's zero-tariff policy for imports from 53 African countries, effective 1 May 2026, could reshape Africa–China trade by expanding market access and encouraging higher value-added exports.

The paper highlights that countries such as Morocco, Nigeria, and Tunisia are well positioned to benefit, while many others may face challenges related to productive capacity, logistics, and compliance with export standards.

Beyond trade growth, the initiative has the potential to support job creation and more inclusive economic development, particularly for women and youth. However, realizing these gains will require continued investment in industrial upgrading, export diversification, and trade facilitation.

A timely analysis of both the opportunities and the policy actions needed to maximize Africa's benefits from this landmark trade initiative.

Qatar at the Crossroads: Economy, Energy Security, and the Strait of Hormuz | MS Research Hub - We Treat Your Mind 12/05/2026

If Iran claims its attacks on Qatar/GCC are aimed at U.S. military assets, does that justify striking Qatari territory?

Qatar insists that Al Udeid and other military facilities are defensive partnerships designed to protect regional stability — not launch attacks on neighboring countries. Yet Iran argues that Gulf-based U.S. military infrastructure has been used against Tehran, making these locations legitimate targets in any confrontation.

What do you think: Is Iran justified in viewing U.S. military bases in Qatar and the Gulf as legitimate targets? Or is this mainly a political and strategic pressure tactic by Tehran to expand the cost of the conflict for everyone involved?
