How does innovation move from university research to real-world industrial applications?

This week, we are delighted to welcome a group of bachelor students from China to the Carl Benz School of Engineering for one of our short-term programs, with a special focus on optics and photonics.

Yesterday, the group had the opportunity to explore this question from two very different perspectives during visits to FLEXOO and InnovationLab in Heidelberg.

The students gained insights into industrial innovation and advanced technologies in practice, experiencing first-hand how engineering solutions are developed and implemented in an international technology company.

A lecture by Prof. Lemmer took the students from the fundamentals and development of display technologies to current innovations in the field. A subsequent tour of the laboratories and production facilities brought these topics to life and sparked plenty of questions and discussions.

Experiences like these are an important part of our short-term programs at Carl Benz School. They give international students the opportunity to complement their academic knowledge with first-hand insights into Germany’s research and innovation landscape, and to exchange ideas directly with the people shaping new technologies.

A week of photonics, innovation and international exchange at Carl Benz School!

This week, we are delighted to welcome a group of 21 Bachelor’s students from China to Karlsruhe for a one-week Short-Term Program at the Carl Benz School of Engineering.

Over the course of the week, the students will explore the world of optics and photonics from different perspectives: Connecting fundamental concepts with cutting-edge research and real-world industrial applications.

We are excited for a week filled with new perspectives, academic exchange and opportunities to discover how photonics connects science, technology and industry.

The CBS Pre-Semester officially kicked off last week, and our students didn't have to wait long for their first excursion!

On Saturday, we visited the Mercedes-Benz Museum and the Porsche Museum, the first of three exciting excursions planned for this year's Pre-Semester program. 🚗✨

These trips are more than just sightseeing. They give our students the opportunity to experience Germany's engineering heritage, take a break from their studies, and most importantly, get to know each other and build friendships from day one.

We can't wait for the next excursions and many more unforgettable moments together!

On Friday, our two-week Summer School Program came to an end, and with it, the entire CBS Summer School 2026. What a journey it has been! ❤️

Over the past weeks, 162 students from around the world explored the exciting world of engineering through inspiring lectures, hands-on workshops, and unforgettable experiences. From designing rockets and exploring sustainable technologies to discovering digital twins, mobility, bridges, and business processes, learning extended far beyond the classroom.

The program also took our participants on exciting excursions to Daimler Truck, the Technik Museum Speyer, the UNIMOG Museum, the Iffezheim Hydroelectric Power Plant, the Mercedes-Benz and Porsche Museums and to many more excursions and cultural events, creating memories and friendships that will last far beyond this summer.

A huge THANK YOU to all our students for your curiosity, enthusiasm, and energy. Thank you to our lecturers, partners, working students, and the entire CBS team for making Summer School 2026 such a success.

We hope you leave Karlsruhe inspired, with new knowledge, new friends, and memories to last a lifetime. 🌍🧡
