DAAD Summer School "Sport Management"

Our Sports Management Summer School in Almaty (Kazakhstan) has come to an end and it was a great success. This fantastic event was only made possible by the commitment and support of many people and organisations from Germany and Kazakhstan. We would like to thank them very much! 💐🙏

First of all, we would like to thank the DAAD and the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (Germany) for their financial support. Furthermore, we are especially grateful to the lecturers of the Summer School: Frank Daumann, Norbert Schütte, Prof. Dr Markus Breuer & Benedikt Römmelt. We would also like to thank Asel Uvalieva (Al-Farabi University, Vice-Rector) and Claudia Hillinger (Head of the International Office, Uni Jena) for coordinating the summer school at the level of the rector's office of the two university organisers. 🇩🇪🇰🇿

The two organisational teams in Kazakhstan and Germany did a fantastic job. From Al-Farabi University it is Madina Adilzhanova (Deputy Head of the Department of Physical Education & Sport) with her team (Ilya Krugovykh, Darhan Zhumashev, Demezhan Saidagali, Toktar Gusmanov, Perizat Tynyshbek). From the side of the University of Jena, they are Darja Kuzmenko, Lev Esipovich, Natalia Schauseil & Anne Dießel.

In addition, we would like to thank numerous partners in Kazakhstan who supported us during the excursion programme: Evgeny Krasikov (Technical Director of FC Kairat), Christina Liebricht (Chairwoman of the German Youth Union, Almaty), KENWOOD Cooking School (Almaty), Nemetski Theater Kasachstan, Deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung (German General Newspaper for Kazakhstan), Judith Hamburg-Madani (DAAD Lektor, Almaty) and many others. A special thanks goes to the Deutscher Fußball-Bund DFB for donating the jerseys of the national team. 🙌

Finally, we would like to thank all participants of the Summer School. Through your active engagement, versatile interactions and great cordiality, this school will remain unforgettable. ✨

The most famous German manager Sepp Herberger said: "Before the game is after the game!" Where are we going to meet next time 🤔? That remains our secret! We wish you all the best and hope to see you again soon! 👋

This Sunday, the 2023 Summer School officially came to an end! 🔚

At the beginning, the DAAD Lektor from Almaty, Judith Hamburg-Madani, reported about the activities of the DAAD and corresponding funding opportunities/programs for students from abroad. 👩‍🏫

Afterwards, the participants were ceremoniously presented with their certificates. 👨‍🎓👩🏽‍🎓📜

Last but not least, there was a pleasant get-together. While eating the matching Summer School cake, the participants talked about the past days and countless experiences. 🍰

We are incredibly happy about the past two weeks and our great participants. 🙏

Exciting teaching units were brought along by Prof. Dr Benedikt Römmelt from Erfurt University of Applied Sciences. 👨‍🏫📚

The first unit covered the topic "Pricing of Sports Services & Products". Among other things, a pricing experiment was conducted and at the end all participants received a great gift from the German Football Association: a jersey of the national team! 👕

The second unit was on "Leadership & Organisational Culture in Sports Organisations". Here, Prof. Römmelt did not miss the opportunity to appear in original German traditional costume, much to the delight of the participants. 🙌🏽

Another unit was on the topic of "Customer Segmentation in Sports".

Yesterday, our participants explored German places in Almaty and got to know the culture, history and customs of the Germans. 🇩🇪

Among other things, they visited the German house in Almaty and the office of the newspaper "deutsche Allgemeine Zeitung". 📰

At the end of the day, they had a delicious meal together in the German restaurant "Frau Irma"! 😋🥗🥘

On today's third day of the Summer School, Prof. Daumann's last teaching unit on the topics "Sports Betting & Doping from an Economic Point of View" and "Digitalisation in Sports" was scheduled for the morning. 🖊📚

This was followed by a ZOOM presentation by the on the possibilities, financing and organisation of studying in Jena, Germany. 🎓🇩🇪

A spontaneous excursion to the Almaty Central State Museum followed in the afternoon. Here, the participants were able to vividly experience the history of Kazakhstan from the beginning of life on earth to the present day in the four large museum rooms. 📜🇰🇿

The museum's collection includes palaeontology, archaeology, ethnography, written testimonies and a collection of around 80,000 photographs.

On the second day of the Summer School, a very special highlight awaited the participants in addition to an exciting teaching unit by Prof. Daumann on the topics of "Economics of the League System" and "Sports and the State"!

In the evening, a German cooking and cultural evening followed! Here the participants learned how to bake a delicious crumble cake with cherries! In small groups, the participants had a lot of fun preparing the German classic! 🥧🍒

Yesterday, the first day of this year's Summer School started with a festive opening ceremony. 🎊

This was followed by a teaching session by Prof. Frank Daumann on "Special Features of the Sports Market & Basics of Sports Competitions". ⚽️💪

The day concluded with a trip around the Al-Farabi University and its sports facilities. 🏟️

The participants were able to get to know each other and are now looking forward to more exciting days here in Almaty! 😊
